I try to give Bill 51% of the doubt in this whole affair, but this is a lame move. "I don't owe the money because the State should have done a better job stepping in sooner."

Nobody's sentence gets reduced because the police were slow getting to the scene of the crime. Argue the merits. And maybe a little sooner.

My guess is Bill doesn't have $250 K after paying all his legal bills. Will he be heading back to jail if he can't pay up?

In theory, you can't get put in jail for not being able to pay. If you are able to pay but try to avoid paying, then you can be put in jail.

Often what happens in these restitution cases is a payment plan over a long period of time. As a practical matter, if you put the guy in jail when he's broke, he's not going to be able to pay anything. Better to let him go try to make some money and take a portion of it over time.

The state tried to get AIG to pay and they said no. Really? Shocking! Dumbass morons in the govt. So not a penny comes out of the pockets of Ariel Quiros, Stenger or any of the other a-holes responsible? Glad justice was served!

Um, if they made the deal thinking the insurer was going to pay, they are idiots. Almost every insurance policy I have ever seen explicitly states that coverage isn't available for fraud, illegal activity, etc. by the insured.

I do not think they are idiots, but they might think the voters are, hoping they will place blame on the insurer.
