I know the feeling Honey. My knees feel the same way after I visit the grocery store or the packie. You were probably doing the same thing I do when I shop. It's not from the bike sweetie, it's from kneeling so long. Home Depot sells these wonderful knee pads that the carpenters (yum yum) wear when they are nailing stuff (and I don't mean my heiny). If you are going to spend a lot of time on your knees, which it sounds like you do, you should get a pair.

Always your girlfriend,

Dick Simmons.
That's one big rope between my legs. Who wants to go for a swing?

After adjusting the seat height as suggested above, you may want to consider how you pedal. Even if you don't have toe clips or clipless pedals, you should think of 'pedaling in circles' versus just pushing down on the pedals or 'mashing' the pedals. Mashing the pedals in too high a gear isn't good for the knees. Try a lower gear but get the RPMs up for a higher cadence that still maintains the speed you want.

Pedaling in circles allows enaging more of both legs. I think of wiping gum off of my feet when doing this.

Sprite,
Bring the bike and come visit me at my shop this weekend and I'll go through it with you. There are a lot of different factors that come into play as has been written in this thread and we can work it out so it's right for you. Since I am closing the shop at the end of the month don't wait too long. You may also find some "deals" on both summer and winter stuff that you want to take advantage of.
I was thinking about the age thing  but I don't have the cajones that Andy has so I'll keep my mouth shut :P

ps; This goes for everybody - I am running some pretty good prices right now as I close the store for good. If anybody needs snowboard gear or accessories like gloves, goggles and helmets please come "take advantage of me" and help me make stuff go away. My basement and attic aren't big enough to store everything I still have left.

Hey sorry to hear you're closing. When do you think your last day will be and what are the plans for the future?
