nuthin' but blues skies ........ another beauty. a bit warmer than yesterday though breezier particularly in the afternoon. skiing-wise pretty much a repeat. groomers all skied very well. must have forgotten to turn off the guns as ovation was once again rotd. middle had grown some rather large bumps. lower vertigo was ungroomed and ok. guns still cranking on east fall but by the time we hit it mid-afternoon had formed ridiculous bumps with some ice if you strayed from the guns and no visibility. felt like a week day.

I enjoyed all the open runs at Bear except for OL. OL had very solid moguls that were not easy to navigate. Skied some of the others a few times and I especially liked lower Skyburst under the guns. At Needles, Cruise and Needles both OK and lower Vertigo a little more solid than yesterday but still fun. Bittersweet including the old headwall skied very nice. Superstar headwall and middle Superstar were good with Preston's Pitch requiring looking for mounds of snow to make turns. The ROTD was Ovation with soft moguls on middle Ovation and interesting snow on lower Ovation. Skied that run multiple times. I saw Donna Weinbrecht outside the Peak Lodge and during our conversation I asked her if she enjoyed Ovation. She was not aware that it was open so she thanked me for letting her know and she headed over there. I did not ski any Canyon runs as I was warned by Mrs.G about it and by her description it sounded like what I had skied yesterday. I also did not ski Snowdown so cannot tell you what it was like there.

Sun was on the rise over Skye Peak as the moon was setting over cloud shrouded Pico. Summit temperature of sixteen degrees for the smaller sized Monday holiday crowd. Mountain has returned to base (RTB) with the nats and woods pretty much toast for now. Started with the Middle Ovation bump warm-up where yesterdays moguls were covered by a velvety smooth manmade blanket. Old broken "courteous skiers says” sign that I had stuck by the top snow gun tower on Lower O two weeks ago for the snowmakers to find had been tossed back off into the trees. Guess they didn’t want that old piece of trash and rather then risk finding that sign for a second time buried under the snow with my skis I removed the hazard from the slopes. Guns of East Fall were next up where we found the snow almost as sweet as Ovation. Ran box laps altering between the two runs until a small gondi line started to form about 10. Sunny Bear was up next with more folks than the Canyon but still barely a line at the Syke Peak Express. Did the afternoon terrain park tour with a friend and his kids.

Grade B-

Quote of the Day - From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

Those rattered poles next to the sign with GIS tells the story in a nutshell.

Good to see Ovation getting a lot of love so far this year.
