Stowe and Whistler will be the only Vail resorts with Snow this XMas break. I guess this is where the EPIC pass cash flow machine gets them through a bad stretch of weather.

Will be interesting to see their next quarterly results if the XMas break ends up as dry as it looks.

Their epic pass revenue will help, mainly because those things can't be cancelled if the weather goes belly up. They will likely have lots and lots of pissed off customers who didn't get refunds on their Christmas week trips not wanting to give them any money in the future.

Their day ticket will be hardly anything compared to what they usually get. Just like whay happened in the east in 15-16.

What's interesting is they only exploded in size fairly recently. The owners of Vail opened Beaver Creek in 1981 and then annexed Arrowhead sometime in the 90's. In 1996 they bought Breckenridge and Keystone. In 2002 they bought Heavenly from Otten. In 2010 they bought Northstar.

2012 was when they really picked up speed, buying. Kirkwood, Afton Alps and Mount Brighton, which were the first urban feeder hills they bought up.

In 2013 they bought The Canyons and then did a hostile takeover of Park City in 2014, connecting them under the Park City name for 2015. The same year they went international, buying Pershier in Australia.

2016 saw their biggest acquisition yet when they bought Whistler Blackcomb, and they also bought another urban feeder hill Wilmont.

Their most recent acquisition was Stowe this year.

When ASC and Intrawest expanded like this, they ended up crashing and burning after bad winters, economic recessions, or both.

Vail has to follow through on the lift upgrades they've already announced. Normally any other money would go to buying more resorts. If this year turns out to be a dud in Colorado, then they will likely not be buying anything this year.

And a dud in CA and UT... It will snow - but missing XMas is a huge hit.
