We'll probably get something pretty close to this, the Dems just don't have any sort of leverage to get too far away from it.
The White House statement said:

President Donald J. Trump is grateful to Chairman [Bob] Goodlatte, Chairman [Mike] McCaul, Congressman [Raul] Labrador, and Congresswoman [Martha] McSally for introducing immigration legislation that would accomplish the President’s core priorities for the American people. The President looks forward to advancing legislation that secures the border, ends chain migration, cancels the visa lottery, and addresses the status of the DACA population in a responsible fashion.

As far as practical politics goes, this suggests two things. First, Democrats probably won’t have a “black” problem if they go forward with comprehensive immigration reform. What they might have, however, is a working-class problem, as lower-income blacks and whites show resistance to plans for more immigration. Given the Democratic Party’s weakness with working-class whites, that isn’t a huge concern. But losing black voters—even if it’s just a few percentage points—could disadvantage the party in southern states like Virginia and North Carolina, where overwhelming black support is required to stay competitive. A little less enthusiasm, and a few fewer votes, could keep a statewide candidate from reaching a majority.

And indeed, if Republicans are feeling ambitious, this divide could form the basis for outreach to working-class blacks. Historically, Republicans have been able to win 10 percent of African Americans in presidential elections. A return to that performance would make several states—Ohio and Pennsylvania, for instance—far more competitive than they are at the moment. Insofar that the GOP wants to cleave the Democratic coalition, immigration might offer a way to reach one group of working-class voters.

Black unemployment rate falls to record low
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 6.8 percent unemployment rate for black workers in December, the lowest in the 45 years the data has been tracked.
Unemployment overall was 4.1 percent.

Just what are you proposing as an alternative to the opportunities and rights presently in the US??

The graph clearly shows the effect of the Great Recession, and gradual return to pre recession levels. In addition, the graph offers no information on how the sample was taken, how employable (how literate, how drug free, how willing, etc) the sample was, or which metric the chart tracks. Is your (unstated) point Obama managed to slowly return to previous employment levels over 8 years?

The graph is derived from unemployment rate data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, you know, the kind of data Gump use to claim was "phony" when Obama was in office. You can check with the BLS for details on methodology.

For Gump supporters, the steady decrease in unemployment over Obama's 8 years was somehow an act of nature, completely uncorrelated to his fiscal policies. But the current low level of unemployment, just one year later, is all due to Gumponomics even though much of that stuff hasn't even been in effect yet (Obama's last fiscal year ran from Oct 1, 2016 through Sep 30, 2017).

Remember all the whining by the right about the Labor Force Participation Rate? The right was very unhappy the economy was steadily improving under a Kenyan socialist president, so they seized upon the LFPR as an indication of what was really happening. "Of course unemployment is falling, fewer people looking for jobs".

LFPR at end of Obama's 2nd term: 62.7
LFPR at end of Gump's 1st year: 62.7

Not so much talk about it now.

For the curious, here's a more fulsome comparison: Comparing the ‘Trump economy’ to the ‘Obama economy’

The point is, we're gonna need more than 1 year to see the real effect of Gump on the economy. If Gump can beat Clinton's record low unemployment, beat Obama's market numbers, deliver 4% GDP growth like he promised and avoid nuclear Armageddon, then maybe I'll use a "T" - maybe.

Trump's First Year Echoes Obama's Record on the Economy

Still, the preliminary conclusion is that the Trump record is modest, at best. The economy performed well in 2017, but not significantly better than its prior trend. The corporate sector showed more vigor, responding to a more business- and tax-friendly administration. But improved economic and financial conditions abroad also helped. Meanwhile, U.S. job creation slowed somewhat and the dollar weakened.

Neither the gains nor the losses can be fully ascribed to Trump. Perhaps, therefore, the biggest surprise is that, for all the fire and fury, less has changed than one might think.

We're looking back at 8 years of Obama. In Trump we already see greater than expected results with China (yes, there was a trade off, you can't be that blind) ISIS, and more competitive corporate tax rates. All of which Obama could easily have done if he had the insight, and Trump hasn't imploded the country as the naysayers were braying about.

Just wanted to cite this, given Trump's statements yesterday afternoon:

http://blog.dilbert.com/2016/09/25/why- ... linton-to/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
5. Pacing and Leading: Trump always takes the extreme position on matters of safety and security for the country, even if those positions are unconstitutional, impractical, evil, or something that the military would refuse to do. Normal people see this as a dangerous situation. Trained persuaders like me see this as something called pacing and leading. Trump “paces” the public – meaning he matches them in their emotional state, and then some. He does that with his extreme responses on immigration, fighting ISIS, stop-and-frisk, etc. Once Trump has established himself as the biggest bad-ass on the topic, he is free to “lead,” which we see him do by softening his deportation stand, limiting his stop-and-frisk comment to Chicago, reversing his first answer on penalties for abortion, and so on. If you are not trained in persuasion, Trump look scary. If you understand pacing and leading, you might see him as the safest candidate who has ever gotten this close to the presidency. That’s how I see him.
