I don't think the skis are garbage a stone grind and a few hundred hours of wax prep and they will be good to go.

Yeah for sure....for folks like you and me they are primo...but for the top end racers it might cost them a few hundredths of a second?????

So "one and done?"

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea (Reuters) - Brutally cold conditions in Pyeongchang are warping skis and forcing some athletes to toss them out after training runs, an Alpine skiing course worker told Reuters on Wednesday.

“One of the coaches said they are throwing the skis out after today,” Craig Randell, a start crew technician working on his third Olympics, said on a chilly morning at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre, where the slalom, giant slalom and team events will be held later this month.

“You can’t do anything about it but with the cold temperatures, the snow adheres to the ski base and twists it.”

“They are turning their skis to garbage real fast,” he said.

Journalists = HUGE MORONS

While they might be getting some base burn due to cold temps/new snow and improper course prep, any half decent world cup tech knows how to tune for that and repair it - at least a dozen different ways. No way they are tossing out skis. Though they are certainly tracking how many runs they do on a ski between them being buffed out and waxed.

If they push a ski too hard without the correct new/cold snow prep, it is possible to permanently abrade the base, which requires a stone grind (plus hours of other prep) to fix.

What a bunch of CRAP. Just someone trying to put out a sensationalist headline. The skis are no where near garbage. Cold weather???? -20 at a ski area???? Give me a break.
