I'm not sure what your raving and ranting is about. The phone company banning you from using their infrastructure is a vastly different concept from one web site banning content.

To boil it down to it's simplest form, if Comcast decided to ban Facebook, users would have no recourse because in many areas (like where I am in Killington) there is literally no alternative to get high speed internet. If Facebook decides to ban Alex Jones articles, Alex Jones can (and does, actually) have a web site where he can post whatever he wants. That alone makes these very different things.

But again, it's more complex than that. Comcast and other providers aren't trying to ban specific content. They are trying to charge companies like Google and Netflix more than they charge other providers to deliver their content because the providers have a monopoly and Google and Netflix have a lot of money. That is what net neutrality is about, despite what people might write and say. It has little to do with freedom of speech or content restrictions.

Actually you have choices in Killington, you can get high speed internet from Comcast or Vtel.

I'll definitely look into that but last I checked in my situation Comcast was the only thing available. I think it's because it's a condo complex that is only wired for Comcast, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd love to have an alternative.

But lest someone latch on to your example, allow me to point out that there are numerous parts of the country where only 1 service provider is available. For example, at my parents house, Comcast is the only option in their subdivision. They can't even get Verizon for phone service because Verizon refuses to expend the cost of installing the wiring.

I think there's a distinct need for legislation or possibly even a constitutional amendment to delineate what data is acceptable for private companies to compile on people and how they can use it.

There should also be rules regarding social media platforms of medium size or larger, concerning free speech, bias and freedom of assembly. Any speech that is not explicitly illegal should be allowed and a lack of bias enforced.
