where would you move

Post by nancie2k »

we were talking about where to live when we retire.
skiing is of course a priority, but it is also about the new people you get to know and live with.
vermont?
utah?
it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it :)

MtnMan and I were just talking about this the other night.....
Tahoe, in a heart beat and without blinking an eye. This year was my first time there and I totally fell in love with Tahoe after only 5 days. I can't wait to go back next season. There was just something about that place..... can't explain it.

Hmm, where would I move? Probably Colorado near Summit County. Easy access to Winter Park, Loveland Basin, A Basin, Keystone, Brekinridge, Copper and Vail/Beaver Creek. Then, still in reasonable access to Da Boat, Cooper, Telluride and Crusted Butt. A bit East and you have Denver and easy access to anywhere you want to go.

I've thought about this quite a bit:

Utah - too wierd a place to live there full-time. If I had to, I'd probably live in Park City since it's less wierd than the rest of the state.

Colorado - I have no interest in the front range. Wolf Creek is the most attractive skiing for me (great snow, nobody goes there) but Pagosa Springs isn't my idea of Nirvana. Durango is the best town I've been in. Purgatory, now called Durango Mountain Resort, isn't bad but they don't get Wolf Creek snowfalls.

New Mexico - I could definitely see myself living in Santa Fe. The local ski hill is downright cool. Taos isn't all that far. Wolf Creek is a little far for a day trip but doable for a multi-day trip.

I haven't checked out Montana yet.

I thought long and hard about moving to Tahoe back in 2000. I'd probably do Tahoe City. Killington people always end up at Squaw since it's the same big brash kind of place.

My sister lives in Vancover. That wouldn't suck. I'd ski more at Mt Baker than at Whistler.

Utah?

A couple we know retired a few years ago with the same question. They took one entire winter and went up and down the west, staying up to a month at a time in different places. They ended up buying a condo in Midvale, UT just south of SLC about 15 minutes away from the canyon that leads to Alta and Snowbird. It's also not far from Solitude and Brighton. This past winter they skied 5 days/week with a season's pass. They are happy with their decision.

I might be moving to Helsinki soon
Just to raise me up a crop of
Dental Floss

Raisin' it up
Waxin' it down
Tying it to the Whipping Post
In the middle of town

I've lived in Summit county, and the summer sailing really sucks. Mud season in the rockies is far worse. There is actually 2 subparts, snow rut season (on the snowpacked dirt roads) and then mud season. You are the last stop on the vegetable truck route. No bugs is a plus. Alpenglow almost every night. Its a healthy, friendly place. The skiing, of course is wonderful and varied. I could visit there a lot.

But I don't have the urge to move to retire. Maybe because I don't plan on retiring. I am self employed, and I hope to stay active in the business world until they send me to the home.

I do think I'll take more time off, ski, travel, etc. But I'm happy right where I am.

G this ones 4 U

Montana
Artist: Frank Zappa
Album: Overnite Sensation

I might be movin' to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of Dental Floss
Raisin' it up
Waxen it down
In a little white box
I can sell uptown
By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Well I just might grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff
For somebody else...
but then, on the other hand
I'd Keep the wax N' melt it down
Pluck some Floss N' swish it aroun'
I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top

(that's why I'M movin' to Montana)

Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a Dental Floss tycoon
(yes I am)
Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a mennil-toss flykune
I'm pluckin' the ol' Dennil Floss
That's growin' on the prairie
Pluckin' the floss!
I plucked all day an' all nite an' all Afternoon...
I'm ridin' a small tiny hoss
(His name is MIGHTY LITTLE)
He's a good hoss
Even though He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or Blanket on anyway
He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or Blanket on anyway
Any way I'm pluckin' the ol' Dennil Floss
Even if you think it is a little silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I'm gonna find me a horse
Just about this big
An' ride him all along the border line
With a Pair of heavy-duty
Zircon-encrusted tweezers in my hand
Every other wrangler would say
I was mighty grand
By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss
But I'd be raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Well I might Ride along the border
With my tweezers gleamin'
In the moon-lighty night
And then I'd Get a cuppa cawfee
N' give my foot a push...
Just me 'n the pymgy pony
Over the Dennil Floss Bush
N' then I might just Jumb back on
An' ride Like a cowboy
Into the dawn to Montana
Movin' to Montana soon

(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)

Movin' to Montana soon

I guess that would depend on where the kids are located at that time but I will definitely not be moving to Florida like many of my relatives have done. It might be VT or it could be Colorado. My retirement days are still far away so I am just taking a guess here.

Sacramento. Maybe just to move there in general. It's 1.5 hours from Squaw and 1.2 hours from SanFran.
Seems like there alot of jobs there too. Never been there, but it sounds nice.
