Glen Plake at Killington today

Post by ozzy »

Anyone else bump into him?
Top of the bubble he and a buddy. Just the two of them. I hear that undeniable cackle of his. I go over and say, "are you Glen Plake?" He says yes. I sooo wanted to do a pro call out, but I didn't. I tell him it's my third time seeing him and I actually waited on him at Choices in 2005. I reminded him that he had the filet. He cackled again. He says he just got into town and he's here with the PSIA masses.
I tell him I skied here 3000 recorded days as of May 2022. He takes a quarter of a second to process that, then says, "thats, cool. Here?"
I say yes, well Killington and Pico. He asks, "what's your favorite trail?" I say the ones with the most snow. He cackles again. I then said my favorite lift is the canyon quad.
His buddy pushes off first and heads way skiers right on upper bunny. Pake skis way skiers left and I follow behind him left of center. I stop at the top of the bridge, they ski on to mousetrap.
It was cool to follow him. I didn't want to press on and burden them. So I held back.
Still pretty neat to ski with Plake even if it was a skied out upper bunny in horribly flat light at 3:20pm.

He is a legend. Glad he interacted with you. I wonder what he's doing with PSIA? Hopefully teaching them something!

So funny, I saw a guy coming off Mid O on Monday. I almost said you look like Plake. He must be here with Kimberly who is a Level 3.

Him, Scott Schmidt and the Egan brothers were the ones I always was in awe of growing up watching the Warren Miller movies of the late 80s/early 90s! Don't get me wrong, current freeskiers being able to do tricks off piste is impressive as hell, but something about dropping in on 205s with just goggles on and no sh*t that was awe inspiring.
