tuesday 1/23 report no bubble

Post by skiadikt »

heard this was gonna happen last week and though there's no red banner on the report page, according to the lift & trail report, no snowdon six today - triple will run in it's place.

This is not windhold related. Nor Needles chair, & Skyeship II.

It’s a shame a relatively new lift … The 6 Bubble … is experiencing challenges each season since installation.

Fingers crossed they can resolve the issues.

That one and the one at Mount Blow are problem child’s. Litter has issues. I’d never go with LP. Dopp is a far better product for these big lifts. Local staff has no idea when it comes to these fancy new lifts either.

Yep, Dopp is blowing LP out of the water on install performance and post startup reliability. No comparison...

They have often closed it during snowmaking on Upper Chute, which is occurring now. It was having issues with spacing yesterday.

must be a chair lift virus spreading on the Green Mountain Spine. Sugarbush has been having issues.

The lift issues everywhere come back to just a few main factors.

The new lifts installed are great. Big fancy new toy. But they can still break. And having staff to understand and be trained on new stuff is hard and takes time. A 5 min. Issue could take a day now on a new lift cuz no one knows.

The old lifts are old. They are problematic and break a lot. It’s a matter of time before they have big time issues. Many have already. And there’s only so many lift mechanics that are good enough to fix and troubleshoot.

And weather. I don’t care what you have for lifts, weather will always be a factor.

Is Aspen/Snow all LP? Lots of stops last week.

Boyne is all Dopp correct? Things stopped maybe once the whole week we were there.

K needs a refund on that bubble....

Heard Supe was down as well today?

THE SNOWDON SIX WILL NOT OPERATE TODAY DUE TO ONGOING SNOWMAKING OPERATIONS UNDER THE LIFT.
The Snowdon Triple will be open its place.

okemo shut down the evergreen bubble early yesterday for maintenance and it did not run today - not sure why.

since we knew about the bubble being down today at K, decided to exercise our epic passes and go to okemo. despite having gone a bunch of times pre WC when there were only a handful of trails, 1st time really skiing there in maybe 30 yrs. surprisingly crowded early.

started in jackson gore. skied most everything open there including a couple nats that needed more snow. oogled a tree run but it was closed. nice pitch but probably doesn't warrant the black designation.

the main mtn from sunburst, evergreen to solitude couldn't be more vanilla. not to say we didnt enjoy ripping some (compared to K) very long runs on nicely groomed snow. probably the most "interesting" area was the south face. found one nat that for some reason had hardly been skied and was good. hit some trees up there. one was more of an open glade that i'd like to hit when it has more snow. again more on the boney side.

people complain about highline being closed for racing at K. okemo had 7 trails closed for racing. the main race trail dropped almost 1700 vert ft. looks great. would love to race on it. also a couple closed for snowmaking. unlike k they apparently close trails for snowmaking. fun day. nice to get away. too bad the place doesn't have more pitch and variety. and yes heard today was another bad day for lifts at K.

Boyne has a very long and good relationship with Dopp and their new installs that I have seen are all Dopp. I was at Loon yesterday and no lift issues.

It seems like VT gets the LP lifts and NH and ME get the Dopp lifts!
