Sounds great, nothing wrong with chalky snow. Mohawk quite nice again today, caught best of the sunshine and vis pre 1pm. are you taking part in ski bum races this season, haven't checked results, always good to see mrs g lining up.

the chalk is great. kinda peels away under your skis. the snow they made this time was perfect. ovation was just as good today as it was yesterday. fwiw they made a lot of snow on it, so it should be a great spring. double dip as well. usually when they turn the guns off, it slicks up but all 3 trails are skiing great. sadly they're grooming supe tonight. know they have to do it, but the bumps are great and would love for them to ride this out until the next freeze.

were the supe bumps some nice lines? always hated the inevitable groom with good rhythmic lines formed, yet i understand the need. peel away chalk, beauty!

Wednesday [and a bit of Tuesday] Sunday River Report: Great two day road trip playing hookey trip from K! Overall fantastic with disclaimer that I pick good days to travel !. Definitely less icy than K; believe they got less in way of the heavy r*in/freeze up as well as most of the stuff I like to ski there does not get near the traffic as similar trails would at K. Blowing lots of snow still on trails such as Alpen Glow, U/L Vortex, and several spot areas. Blew snow last week on White Heat [caught the post snowmaking groomed opening of it Wednesday] and Shock Wave [not open yet]. Almost all of the natural terrain and woods was open.

Best skiing, as expected was on the White Heat side [low traffic w/ no HS chairs], Barker Mountain w/ new HS Dopplemeyer bubble chair, and Jordan/Oz playground. The black and blue groomers were excellent for the most part. Natural coverage was great except for a couple of very steep 'ledges'. Lift and Trail info on their App was spot on.

Highlights include:
- All of the groomers and the short chair liftline on White Cap. White Heat was great with perfectly groomed snow and sun but only did one run on it as there were bigger fish to fry. Interesting that hardly anyone was skiing it in the afternoon; if this was at K it woulda been a big mogul field by closing bell.
- Agony [liftline] and Top Gun on Barker mountain.
- Alpen Glow with or without right hand diversions to the chair on Aurora Peak.
- Everything was great at Jordan / Oz except for one trail where they blew some wet snow Tuesday night. Lower woods were OK, ones higher up were great. ROTDs [both days] were some combo of Wizard's Gulch woods, Carimba [Jornal liftline], Woodsman / Eureka / Lost Princess / Emerald City playground; natural snow with nicely rounded medium size moguls, only a bit of scratch, and even a bit of softening on the mogul front sides [trail faces North, gets a nice glancing blow of sun behind you in afternoon] to sweeten the pot.
- North Peak; first time going out of my way to see what it had to offer. Quantum leap, over the back to Aurora lift was an outstanding nat / mogul run. Upper 3D, a "blue", was a decent ungroomed mogul run. Northern Exposure, a lift line on the 'front', is the scariest thing I have skied this year. Two extremely steep, short pitches on a very narrow trail, with less than perfect cover made it tough.

Locals were complaining about the $14 beers ! We did happy hour Tuesday at the Shipyard Brewery at White Cap; a bit expensive but great wings and good beer selection. Lunch there Wednesday very good as well.

Great use of our Ikon pass !

Yeah, have done that and thought about it this time, but decided to stay at SR due to what they had open, etc.

My original plan leading up to this week was drive out to Rangely Mon evening, do the Loaf Tuesday, and hit SR on the way back home. But the Loaf didn't have anywhere near open as did SR.

Thx, CH
