SkyeShip Gondala > Number of busted chairs..

Post by Mogulee »

It seems that the policy of keeping the nth chair open is not being done at Stage 1 on some times during some weekends... and on top of this there are so many busted Gondola chairs.. .and the number of them seems to be increasing over last 6 weeks of skiiing at Killington on weekends, not going down.

What is holding back the resort from fixing these busted Gondola chairs on SkyeShip ? Seems like this is not a big issue that we see with K1 so the corporate team seems to be putting their money on K1 but leaving SkyeShip as a 2nd priority ?

Just seems to be the case.

Anyone know why so many busted SkyeShip chairs exist and why the count of them seems to be getting even higher ?

It seems like every 6th Gondola cube is "do not use" and then on top of that the Stage 2 folks are at the mercy of the folks at Stage 1 to keep every 4th one empty ?

Anyone else see/feel the same issue ? IT takes too long to get onto Stage 2 it seems and it is imo partly because of the issues above... proper non-filling of cubes at Stage 1 and busted counts going up .. at least not going down and any fixes on them.

Thoughts ?

If a particular cabin has a problem, then it is tagged out, rather than removed from the line. The lift is designed to operate with a specific number of cabins, and if you remove some, then it throws off the spacing. The tagged out cabins have a label saying the date it happened, and what part it needs. Many of them are from back in January. I'm not sure why it's taking so long to fix them.

Lift ops have sucked this season. At one point yesterday Stage 2, Northbrook, and Needles were all down. Finally got out on Stage 2 (which kept stopping), but nearly hiked out to Snowshed. Who's running this shitshow?

Don't they have a fair number of spare cabins? They could have kept the best ones from K1 before the upgrade and kept a few rehabbed ones at the ready.

The gondola chairs and cubes. Learn something new every day.

Lift is old, used less then most, and on its last leg. That’s the problem. Either fix it right or zip tie and duct tape it back.

The low intermediate skiers in my group were scared to death having to ski down Skye Peak, because they couldn't get out of Needles on the Northbrook quad. Excessively bad impression of Killington for them.

They have no spares. There are so many bad cabins that they have to keep them in the “active” lineup in order to have enough cabins to run the lift.

The resort refuses to budget money to fix the cabins. It’s been piecemeal for years- take a part off of another broken cabin to get a cabin to a state where it will at least move around the lift line. It’s like having a yard full of 1990 Ford F150s so you can keep one F150 running by pillaging parts from your yard of junkers, instead of taking the F150 to a mechanic for an overhaul with new parts.

If they didn’t have such good mechanics in that area, it would not run at all.

Mechanics in all areas of machinery at Killington rock - they just need the right direction to fix what they recognize is broken - thanks all for what you are free to fix🤗

I rarely ride gondolas in general and definitely avoid the death trap that is Skyeship. Rode it last week and the cabin doors didn’t have windows. They weren’t broken they simply weren’t there.

That area is broken without Needles Eye.

Don't be melodramatic... Chairlifts don't have windows, you're not going to fall out of a missing pane. Needs a lot of love yes, but it ain't a deathtrap.

They have to send up empty cabins from the bottom with no needles chair. Needles area sucks without the chair running.
