tuesday 3/12 report

Post by skiadikt »

mother nature pretty much threw another perfect game. bright sunshine & warm temps as we reaped the harvest of this week's snow. almost a sunday crowd on hand. K1 lot full by 9:30 and plenty of cars shoehorned and cones "creatively" moved. some liftlines. 9-1:30 shift.

at the bell, highline beautifully groomed packed pow. after that it was mostly ungroomed. GB totally refreshed by some windblown snow. flush still skiing well. plenty of loose lightly tracked on conclusion. on our return trip in the afternoon. more rocks were showing and lower down was more clumpy. up top, double dip & big dip skied great. unfortunately no canyon chair, so just one run.

over at supe, old supe excellent as there was more filling in. repeated. best bumps on the hill. mid ovation scrapey. preston's liftline still quite good. supe itself, not good. skied off w world cup ice between the bumps. lower lark was the same. breakaway skied great but definitely heavy lower down.

a full corral at the SPE sent us packing so skied nothing at bear. at needles old upper also the beneficiary of wind refresh. lower vertigo excellent. cruise in great shape. again lines at the skyeship.

finished w repeats on snowdon. north star good but getting rocky lower down. low rider ok but more stuff showing and clumpy lower down. with the crowd they had today, the canyon, needles & bear chairs would have been great to have.

I was looking at the app wait times, and it appears to be a Friday/Sunday sized crowd. Clearly everyone had the same idea. It would be nice if additional lifts could open on stand by in case of a larger than expected crowd, but that does make staffing more difficult than a fixed schedule.

yup i called it a sunday crowd. was a "perfect storm" between the sunny warm day and the over 2 ft of snow we received. and for sure would have been great to have the additional lifts. we rode the lift to nowhere twice but essentially were shut out at bear, needles and the canyon. it's too bad they couldn't be more flexible w their staffing but guessing even they were surprised by the turnout. still an awesome day ...

didn't see anything. in any case probably only the fan gun running and shut off early because of temps. moot since we're pretty much near the end of snowmakng. maybe a window next tuesday>wednesday if they're looking for one last hurrah but that's it.

they were running on supe today w the bottom towers and low e's from just above the mid o exit to just below launch pad and a couple hkds on top. my friend reported it as r*in. temps warmed very quickly and they were shut off by late morning. other spots running as well.

Ski'd Grizz last run @ 4:20 no issues there. Although there appears to be a blowout between KSC & K1 lodge. Saw it Monday ... marked with bamboo and Monday there was alot of yellowish / brownish snow below it near the ski racks under the Gondola line...

Afternoon Report: Great weather and conditions. And very crowded for a Tuesday though no significant liftlines in the afternoon.

Warmup on Rime excellent. As good as it's been all season. Then somewhat disappointing run down Pipe Dream; cover already getting thin and not sure if enough snow / skier traffic to reform any nice bumps. Butt, glad we we able to do it again this year.

Stash very good. Same with Shorty, Dream Maker park, and Skyeburst. Lower Wildfire excellent butt wished they'd let the left side bump up.

Needle's Eye TTB excellent.

Middle Supe OK butt some wind scouring on top of the ridge and everything right of the ridge is an odd double fall line. Lower Skyelark very good with decent bumps.

North Star sweet ! ROTD. Heard Low Rider good as well.

Upper Bunny very good -> Mouse Trap as good as it gets !
