Monday 4/8 total eclipse of the heart report

Post by RustyK »

8:30 got a place with the captain in bay one.

Out with GIS and crew at the bubble near the bell. No grooming on high line so it was groomers on the trap.

East fall and north ridge good. Casacade excellent. Canyon quad over to needles. Sticky down low on bdfr.

Back up high for more cascade. Woods either too firm or sticky. Weird. Beer at bayone and out with the captain and crew.

Dipper nice line in the middle. Sup and a few on the canyon and it was 2:00. Back to bayone with smashed and daytripper and crew. Great BBQ with the Captain playing dark side of the moon at the peak eclipse. Lots more peeps on the K1 deck. Good vibe everywhere. Great ski day and eclipse that is just another excuse to stop everything and drink.

mama nature finished off a busy week that started w an earthquake, followed up by a bizzard and capped off by her piece de resistence - a total eclipse.

went to the da bush to experience totality and wasn't disappointed as the sun performed her disappearing act. quite a surreal site as the moon pushed the mtn into darkness. think we had just under 2 min of total darkness. the corona was a site to behold. bush did it right running lifts until 3-ish and resuming at 3:40. quite a party at the top of the lift. suddenly got cold & dark. skiing down in the "twlight" was a trip. rode the lift a couple more times though things did crisp up a bit. at the base, the band - the grift rocked and of course performed dark side ...

been a while since i was there. skiing was off-the-hook. everything soft at the bell. started on the gatehouse side w groomers & easy bumps. then moved over to gadd which had a number of long, steep, mature, well skied-in bumps including steins, mall, twist, moonshine & birdland. overall k has more snow but thought the bumps at the bush were better. an unforgettable day ...

We took the "Eclipse train" up to Burlington. No traffic, no issues. We found a brewery on the lakefront, it was fun. At eclipse time it got dark, much cooler. I guess it lasted 3 or 4 minutes. The whole trip was well worth it, even though we lost a day of skiing.

Totality, but it was actually darker

Afternoon Report: Another good one out there with bluebird skies and yet another excuse to party mid-afternoon.

LEF great. Up Canyon to sample the "other" side. Fun wussy run down Upper Pipe Dream. Cruise Control very good. Stitchline was quite a workout as a bit manky, but very skiable.

Bittersweet and Low Road Excellent. Same for Supe TTB. Couldn't really go wrong there.

After lunch beer with Rusty, back out we went for final laps in Canyon. Double Dipper was BIG with a nice line right down the center [where the bumper crowd was skiing earlier]. Cascade great and ROTD Cascade -> Flume to head back to the car and watch some paint dry.

Fun day !
