Loved the Airplane back in the day. Grace Slick singing "Up against the wall, motherfvcker!" Always brings a smile.

Chased the Dead in a 3 day bohemian binge beginning in Chicagoland in the late 70's. Remember portions of it.
Having now seen Dead & Co, they'll never achieve the magic that JG was responsible for. Mayer is a good guitarist, but Jerry was a musical genius and true virtuoso. Recordings by many artists feature JG in the background. Rait and Hornsby always went to Jerry for the flourish he'd deliver on Tiger. One night at Sugarbush in early 80's they floored the Valley House crowd. JG's art made for excellent neckwear designs. Dead T-shirts still a staple item for many :like

Irreplaceable .. and in the creative music vacuum period we are in now .. sorely missed

:Toast

Saw DSO at the Peach Festival in Scranton PA and they tore up a set heavy on Pigpen. It was absolutely wonderful. Best set of the fest except for the WSP and Mule sets.

Can't believe he was only 53 when he died, he looked at least 68.

Lot's of miles on that 53. Acid, Bad eating, Coke, sleep deprivation, etc. I'm sure he never thought or cared if he made it past 30.

Funny the guys and gals that make it through that mess and the ones that don't - ie Clapton, Keith Richards, and J Page........
