The Killington area has neither the best side country nor the best backcountry. It is definitely worth heading further north if that is what you seek. In general, compared to Sugarbush / Mad River, Stowe, or Jay, Killington has less snow, less friendly exits back to the resort, and thicker less app...

...based on hiking exposure to local terrain, i know there has to be worthwhile BC around between Rutland and Bridgewater areas...goals include not seeing or hearing any mechanized uphill transport equipment. realistic here...not looking for amazing, just decent.
