Re: Copper Mountain
Just coming back from a few days at Copper... :like The most expensive draft beer was $10. 12 oz can of Coors was $6... Paying $6 for water seems like a crime, no? Also, I'm sure the $10 beer on tap at Copper was decent, if not good, but probably not anything like the IPA's produced in Vermont. Not...

Re: Snowmaking and Terrain Expansion Thread (2024-2025)
I don't think the runout is the weak link here. Lower East Fall is. The runout is well shaded. As is much of Killink. Ever notice how long Launch Pad holds on to snow in the Spring? Flat, compressed, and very shaded. With the additional snow made on the runout, it may very well last till at least M...

Even if there's snow on the runout in May - you won't be able to ski out. It will be mashed potatoes..... The one time you want them to make ice. that's what salting is for. i imagine K will know to do this. did wonders when i was at mammoth many junes ago. salt on the groomers kept them firm and f...

Re: How the Opioid Crisis Made Vail Resorts the World’s Largest Ski Conglomerate
A couple things to mention regarding medical care for skiers in Rutland. If Eileen had serious concerns about the ability of medical professionals to treat her daughter after her crash on Superstar on November 30th, they could have gone to Dartmouth rather than Rutland (it may also be worth noting t...

Re: Whistler vs Kicking Horse vs Revelstoke
Agree with a lot said earlier. Some of the negatives mentioned are are a little overstated and are very condition dependent by the day you'll be there. That's difficult to predict. Each have great skiing, though I haven't skied them in some time. Kicking Horse is likely to have the best snow quality...

Lidar mapping by drone is cheap these days. Just got a 2-acre land survey for $1200 in 7 days from quote to cad file in 0.1 foot contours. No kidding? and thank you too BurrPond Welcome! And I'm sure someday I'll say something that oversteps the line in the minds of experts in some domain... But in...

Re: World Cup at Killington - Should it stay, or should it go?
Mike made the statement about the loss a few years ago. He has not made such a claim recently. I always thought it was an odd statement to make. What was that number based on, and was the statement aimed at FIS to secure a better deal from them going forward? For all we know, that has since occurre...

Re: Opening , TTB and World Cup - 2024
One thing that has evolved in the last few years is they have very accurate maps of snow depth all over the course. I suspect that's the reason for the extensive grooming: fill in the parts where its shallow from where they've got a little extra. The old "four foot" spec probably dates to...

Does anyone (Newpy??) know if they're using Snomax? Do any other ski areas still utilize it? And would it actually be effective? Some many years ago, I was told it was used in the current type of conditions... "Snomax is a 'snow inducer' based on the proteins derived from a naturally occurring ...

Re: Opening , TTB and World Cup - 2024
IIRC, the WC came to a killington as a one off as Aspen had the World Championships that year and FIS prefers to not hold events twice at same venue. That first killington WC was hugely successful, way more so than Aspen, and FIS and Aspen didn’t have the best relationship (since improved, obviousl...

Have fun! Recommended: - Ski all the lines off the top of Steinbergkogel, particularly under the chair by the snow fences; few do, snow can be preserved and therefore, excellent - Check out and ski the Streif, perhaps the most reknown "ski trail" in the world; begin at the starthouse and w...

Re: What Can the New Owners do to Fix K This Season
Actually, Killington was wrong on that when they did their press release on the new lodge a few years ago. There was an escalator in The Economy department store in downtown Rutland in the 1970's, as my brother and I rode it then (as tykes). Others have indicated it was certainly there in the 60's, ...
