Bear Mountain Quad and Sky peak quad on "Wind Hold"
Re: pipe blowout at bear
I hope that's from a snowmaking pipe and not the other kind of pipes that are on that side of the lodge!
Don't Deer Valley Killington!

Septic tanks are on the other side of the lodge. Was this the main feed pipe that comes up from the reservoir?

No, that goes under the parking lot behind the Skye Peak Quad.
I hope this forces a much larger pipe project at Bear, it's past time. No good steel left on that side.

I don't know which line had the break, but it wasn't the one going to OL, since when I went through the base around 3, they were still making snow there. I'm not sure any of the pipe at Bear has ever been replaced before. They seemingly have breaks like this every year. Rip and replace all of the pipe on that side.

Re: pipe blowout at bear
Not sure but it could be the snowmaking pipe. It would be pressurized. And, that's what was happening albeit higher up, when we had the Wildfire gorge earlier in the season.snoloco wrote: ↑Feb 27th, '22, 20:05 I don't know which line had the break, but it wasn't the one going to OL, since when I went through the base around 3, they were still making snow there. Re: pipe blowout at bear
I wasn't there to see exactly where the break is, but all of the feeds outside of the feed to Snowshed from Woodward, and Bear Cub/Sunrise go right under there. It also could have been the fire suppression system for the lodge. They had a leak on the suppression feed that goes up to K-1 outside the Snowshed lodge earlier this year and they dug it up, piled a bunch of pine bales on it and covered it back up. It was a smaller leak and that keeps it from bubbling up dirt up through the snow. If they continued to make snow everywhere that they were after the leak was shut off then it likely was not a high pressure line.
Re: pipe blowout at bear
Totally cleaned up - would never have known it happened if not earlier photos …. other than one pile of dirty-looking snow, and some in front of chicken food truck. Kudos to Killington’s cleanup crew for a great job

Except for the giant pile of brown snow at the exit from Wildfire, yeah it’s cleaned up.
