what exactly is a vertical drop?
yes, i still don't know what this is yet.
The amount of Altitude lost from top to bottom, in other words a trail may have a 1000 foot vertical drop but might be 3 miles long, where a really steep trail may have a 1000 foot vertical drop, but be only 3/4 of a mile long.
A sheer cliff would have 1000 feet of vertical and would be 1000 feet long.
One thing that matters most to a skier is vertical drop, the difference in altitude between the highest lift-served point and the bottom of the ski run. Bigger verticals mean longer runs, also people are more widely spread out over the mountain, making for uncrowded lifts, and an overall a better ratio between time on the lift and time on the run.
Make any sense??
