I would definitely be pissed and I encounter that situation every time I drive on the Thruway (they will ge going the speed limit rather than 15 mph). However, until they move over or I can get around them, I still need to slow my speed down so I do not hit them.DMC Freeride wrote:Very true...tyrolean_skier wrote:I think if you are skiing or riding you should approach this in the same way as if you were driving a car on the road. If there is a slower car in front of you do you crash right into it? I would think that you would slow down before getting into an accident. The same goes for skiing/riding on a trail, if someone in front of you is slower then you, slow down until you can safely pass them.
BUT - (and I'm not saying this is what happened) - if your on the Thruway and someone is doing 15mph.. I'm sure you would be pissed and wishing that person would drive faster...

I'd agree if we were talking about a real advanced trail. Neither Needles or Skyeburst qualify. They're both big wide groomers. A kid going slow on a crowded day - with a nervous parent following - on a high traffic "advanced skier" trail.. I don't see how some sort of "incident" could even be avoided..
Sorry...
use them as the next step after they graduate from snowshed.

OK -- my kid is doing parallel turns is a controlled manner. I'm basically keeping up.
We were skiing at a reasonable pace.
I really don't have any expectations from you. I was just commenting on how many people are skiing out of control.
What happend to N2K is a clear example of someone not paying attention and someone else having to pay for their stupidity.

should they should post the DYFS hotline # on the trail sign?picnic wrote:Killingto on a Saturday with a 4 year old on Skye Burst. That wouldn't have my choice for a trail to ski with my kid when she was 4.

not to get to far off track but friday night, we watched life star land in the parking lot and take off with a skier involved in a collision. Within a span of about 20 minutes, they were 2 or 3 ambulances hauling into the parking lot and a bunch of staties. It was weird to see that thing land and as i was walking to my car, the ambulance with one of the injured went by and they were holding up IV bags and working him/her over. Point is, it can happen anywhere.

I watched a friend get loaded into a chopper once... She got plastered on the hill by a "hit and run" - after a year and a half - she still is trying to get back together and out on the hill...2knees wrote:not to get to far off track but friday night, we watched life star land in the parking lot and take off with a skier involved in a collision. If you teach the kid to drive now, you'll have a DD for the next 14 years.DMC Freeride wrote:Unless the 4 year old wants to carry the beer...dssberg wrote:I'm in -- I'll leave the 4 yr. old home -- too dangerous.skitiger wrote:Golf anyone ?
Two sniffs, a snort, a fly, a turn and a grunt; and it was so simple like the jitterbug it plumb evaded me.

we skied with our 5 yo and 3 yo on skyeburst, bear claw, home stretch and great eastern all weekend. no incidents, no close calls. and it seemed more crowded than usual. recklessness is here to stay. it's up to the parent to try and limit these "interactions". always look uphill before proceeding downhill, stay to the sides, etc...

Is'nt weekend skiing a gas?dssberg wrote:It's surprising more people don't have the same experience that N2K had -- not that I wish it on anyone.
I was on Skyeburst on Saturday with my daughter (4 yrs. old) and some kid ran right into her.
On the next run -- same trail, I was skiing 15 feet behind my daughter and a snow boarder decided to use us as slalom course.
On Needle's, the same thing happened with an out of control skier.
