A female passenger aboard United Flight 923 had Vaseline, a screw driver, matches and a note referencing al-Qaida, according to Phil Orlandella, spokesman for Boston's Logan International Airport.
NBC News has been told there was never a threat of terrorism. The pilot decided to land at the nearest airport after the altercation. The woman was taken off the plane, which is planned to continue to Dulles International Airport.
No more lubing up your screwdrivers folks...we're at war!

The TSA says she wasn't carrying anything. She was apparently claustrophobic and got into some altercation with the crew related to her claustrophobia.
Am I the only one who's sickened by the way we as a society react to this stuff. We act like a bunch of frightened sheep ready to piss in our pants. If the goal of terrorism is to terrorize - they won.

You're certainly not alone in your sickened state. Fear is a powerful tool...one that is used against us at every opportunity it seems. And not just by "them".BigKahuna13 wrote:The TSA says she wasn't carrying anything. She was apparently claustrophobic and got into some altercation with the crew related to her claustrophobia.

Gotta love our modern day media...
BOSTON - Fighter jets escorted a London-to-Washington, D.C., flight to Boston's Logan airport Wednesday after the pilot declared an emergency because an apparently claustrophobic passenger caused a disturbance, federal officials said.
The federal security official for Logan said there was no indication of terrorism and denied reports that the woman had a screw driver, matches and a note referring to al-Qaida.
The passenger aboard United Flight 923 said she was claustrophobic and became very upset and got into some kind of confrontation with the flight crew, said George Naccara, security director for the Transportation Security Administration for Massachusetts' airport.

Am I the only one who's sickened by how idiotic some airplane passengers are? After everything that's happend, I saw two people on 8/11 attempting to sneak on bottles of water!BigKahuna13 wrote: Am I the only one who's sickened by the way we as a society react to this stuff. Wouldn't a better approch to banning water be to have the people bringing water on board take a drink, nah to simple.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Am I the only one who's sickened by how idiotic some airplane passengers are? What always amazes me is people say that passengers, flight crew, the TSA over react sometimes (all the time?), but if this woman who supposidly is claustrophobic ended-up blowing the plane to pieces, then they'd cry about how the TSA isn't strict enough.shortski wrote:Wouldn't a better approch to banning water be to have the people bringing water on board take a drink, nah to simple.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Am I the only one who's sickened by how idiotic some airplane passengers are? You can say that about almost anything. Where do you draw the line?XtremeJibber2001 wrote:What always amazes me is people say that passengers, flight crew, the TSA over react sometimes (all the time?), but if this woman who supposidly is claustrophobic ended-up blowing the plane to pieces, then they'd cry about how the TSA isn't strict enough.shortski wrote:Wouldn't a better approch to banning water be to have the people bringing water on board take a drink, nah to simple.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Am I the only one who's sickened by how idiotic some airplane passengers are? At the rate we're going soon anytime a passenger farts they'll call out the
F16s.
Wasn't there so I don't know what went on, but this strikes me more as a cya move than anything else. An expensive cya to boot. Falcon's ain't cheap to operate and diversions cost airlines lots of money.

Hey, I've been on flights where people around me were farting so bad they should've called the HazMat gang. A guy with a match could've taken the whole plane down just by lighting one up! Maybe supplies of Beano or Pepto should be mandatory on all flights?BigKahuna13 wrote: Where do you draw the line?

If this woman was a Terrorist and crashed the plane into the Sears tower, I'm sure you'd be posting here questioning why the F-16's weren't scrambled.BigKahuna13 wrote:

Farting? Probably not, but obviously the flight attendants, air marshall(s) (were there any?), and pilots saw the need to land. I'll take the pilots decision on the need to land and be escorted as reason enough.

You're completely missing the point. You can call anyone a terrorist for doing just about anything and get away with it. Does not mean that that's a smart thing to do.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:If this woman was a Terrorist and crashed the plane into the Sears tower, I'm sure you'd be posting here questioning why the F-16's weren't scrambled.BigKahuna13 wrote:

I'm not so much complaining about the decision as much as the environment of fear we've created that causes otherwise reasonable people to overreact to anything that's out of the ordinary.
