So...you go out with a bunch of friends to a restaurant. You get a table and sit down, review the menu, then order. XJib, being the "health concious" person in the group, asks about trans fats and learns that anything that appeals to him on the menu is cooked with trans fats. OK friends, let's leave. You think this is rational?XtremeJibber2001 wrote:If one was "really" concerned about TransFat, couldn't the consumer/customer ask the restaurant to clarify what they're cooking with? Fine. So you label choices with trans-fats on the menu as such and let the consumer decide.Bubba wrote:So...you go out with a bunch of friends to a restaurant. I think the rational and intelligent person would make it known to their friends that they have a problem with unhealthy food (i.e. TransFat) and their friends will be aware of this before going out to dine.Bubba wrote:So...you go out with a bunch of friends to a restaurant. Before sitting at the table, the "health freak" could presumably call the restaurant prior to attending so they can be informed if any foods contain TransFat and steer clear of those entrees or opt not to spend money at this establishment.

What if the vast majority of restaurants cook with trans fats and you don't know which is which until you're sitting at the table? You're now faced with having to force restaurants to post their menus in the window - another regulation.BigKahuna13 wrote:Fine. Do you really think people are that dumb? Restaurants publish menu's (online and other ways) and potential customers can call before attending so they know what food and substances are available before dining.Bubba wrote:What if the vast majority of restaurants cook with trans fats and you don't know which is which until you're sitting at the table? Do you go to restaurants, get seated, and then decide if you like the food or selection? No, you call, talk to friends, look at their menu online, etc.

Lesser of two evils. their menus in the window - or have you forgotten that because of too many years in the boondocks :)

This is a rhetorical question, right?XtremeJibber2001 wrote:

So you are saying that all restaurant menus should be labeled with trans fat content, and that this must be posted outside the restaurant and on all on-line menus? And that whoever answers the phone at a restaurant when you call must be knowledgeable about which dishes are cooked with trans fats and which aren't?XtremeJibber2001 wrote: Restaurants publish menu's (online and other ways) and potential customers can call before attending so they know what food and substances are available before dining.
