Shots fired (NSR, NKR)

Post by spanky »

I was out doing some last minute errands this evening and stopped at a gas station to fill up (not more than a mile or so from my house). I left the gas station, made the first right down a one-way side street and noticed a few guys running towards the car. This put my senses on alert. I continued down the street 2 blocks to where it ends at another one way (picture a T intersection). As I approached the corner, I looked to my left (in the direction traffic would be coming from) and saw a guy just up the street. That's when I heard the pop, pop, pop of gunfire. I'm not sure if that guy was the shooter, but I nailed the gas, slouched down in my seat and prayed I wouldn't get hit as I drove off. I approached a red light, slowed down to make sure there wasn't any crossing traffic and blew right through it. A few blocks later I pulled into a shopping center and phoned 911...

Dispatcher: "911, what's your emergency?"
Me: "I'm calling to report shots fired on 15th Street!"
Dispatcher: "What city are you in?"
Me: "Jersey City!" (I figured with E911 on the cell phone that they knew my location)
Dispatcher: "Yes, the police are aware of this and are en route."

Right after hanging up, I saw several JC police cars heading back to where I just came from.

I then continued on shopping but it took me a good 30 minutes before I stopped shaking. Just retelling the story now has the adrenaline going again.

An experience like this puts things in perspective.

Merry Christmas and be safe.

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

That's probably the closest mall for him to shop in.

During winter 90% of what gets written here has nothing to do with Killington. During summer it's 99 44/100%. You'll get used to it. Or you won't. Either way it'll continue that way.

Glad you're okay spanky.

Sure, there are lots of hunters in Vermont-and it's hard to say where they'll show up! Wear your blaze orange.

I wasn't even going to the Newport mall, just some of the surrounding stores. I agree, that place is a dump.
