But Altas been that way. The shortened season here is new. Change is tough to accept sometimes...KMartman wrote:Hey altas closing on April 20th as well and we have FAR more snow than you'll ever have...last tally...today 165" settled depth...near 640" total snowfall this season...likely will break 650 by weeks end.

not snowbird....it is a land use issue for some...a geographical issue for some...a money issue for some...snowbird will close Memorial day weekend and depending on when they get the tram line replaced will re-open mid june...there will still be some very good skiing up high.daytripper wrote:dont many of the western mountains that close early do so because of animal migration and other enviornmental reasons?sLoPeS wrote:KMartman wrote:Hey altas closing on April 20th as well and we have FAR more snow than you'll ever have...last tally...today 165" settled depth...near 640" total snowfall this season...likely will break 650 by weeks end.

Well, what I forgot to mention, was that this reputation was very true, and it also did include a long season, although growing ever shorter...robrules wrote:Still do.skiingsnow wrote: They had a reputation for being severly overcrowded, skied off in an hour, and not making any upgrades, or even doing maintenence on things falling apart. They had a reputation for not running important lifts, and for overgrooming the mountain.
These days, the rep could still be there, but its not all true... Its not crowded, its not skied off nearly as fast, $11.7 M in capital improvements in less then a year and a half, and $2 in maintenence last season, and unknown $ to be spent on maintenence this summer... And not just basic mantentence so stuff doesn't fall down, but perk it up a bit! There is no long season at K anymore...

I work at Cutting Edge Instruments, In Bridgewater Corners, Vermont.finn wrote:yea your right, but there is you skiingsnow a 19 year old with nothing else to do than Kiss K's butt. Are you sure you aren't in marketing?
I am not in marketing for Killington Resort. I have no interest in doing so. My pics or reports are not means for me to do my own little marketing gig, they are for the enjoyement of some that cant be here, just to give them an idea on how things are looking. And then, I can also SHOW Dr. No, that they left Outer Limits ungroomed for a long time, and not just rely on my word that it happened....

I guess you don’t live around here... There is a shortage of people to fill available positions everywhere from Walmart to McDonalds, to Killington, to Dhmc, to Rutland Regional, to gas stations, to Cutting Edge Instruments. . . . .BadDog wrote:Yes, with the incredibly low unemployment numbers just released and a economy where every citizen has more surplus cash than they need, it must be really difficult to hire people.skiingsnow wrote:This season, they set up all this stuff, and I think they are already straining themselves getting enough help to stay open 1 week longer, with 3 lifts.
Especially on weekends -- no one is looking for a second job right now!
Theres thousands of jobs needing workers in this very small area I call home.

Thousands huh? Rutland Herald/Jobs in VT/Monster only have 175 listings within 20 miles of Killington. Gotta wonder if you even try to use your brain before your fingers start talking...skiingsnow wrote:I guess you don’t live around here... Have you ever been to West Lebanon, Nh or Rutland, Vt??? Most of the places I just listed above have no ads in papers. They have permanent signs up at their locations for jobs!! Putting ads in the paper is expensive... You look through the papers or monster, you will see nearly no service industry jobs. Thats where theres a huge amount of empty positions in the area. They all just use signs at their locations. Some dont even do that, just ask for a job app.Stormchaser wrote:Thousands huh?
