Killington's upcoming 50th Anniversary

Post by shortski »

I was out up on the access road yesterday and ran into a local business owner who is very active in promoting the area. We were talking about several things when the subject of the 50th anniversary of Killington came up. He told me that the discussions have been started and that they will be looking for input and suggestions for events and promotions to celebrate the occasion.

I would like to start a thread and get people's input to what they would like to see. I will collect the suggestions and present them to whomever/whatever entity is set up to plan the event/events.

If people are interested I'll set up a sticky for the suggestions. I ask that anyone responding in the thread simply post the suggestion, if people want to discuss the suggestions start a separate thread on the main Killington Chat forum for that purpose, just put in the title the suggestion you made with discuss. Lets see if we can come up with some good ideas.

I'll run the poll until August 1st 2008. Pending the outcome of the poll further action will be taken immediately after the poll ends.

Here's a chance to give some input for what should be a major event, lets see what the self proclaimed core Killington Skiers of KZone have to contribute. Let's not have this deteriorate, as Greg from AlpineZone said, into "the usual KZone bitch fest".

There is no AndyZ option. :-)

On the ANNIVERSARY DAY (and that day only)

1. Sell season tickets for the 08-09 ski season at 1958 season ticket prices. That will really PROVE they want to commemorate 50 years of skiing!
2. If that's too much for them to bite, then how about selling lift tickets for that day only at 1958 prices.
3. If that's too much for them to bite, then how about selling hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries and a Coca-Cola at 1958 food prices.
4. If that's still too much for them to bite, then about selling ONE beer or fountain drink per season lift ticket holder (or day pass holder) at 1958 prices.
If they can't even cough up selling one single soda for 10 cents (or whatever it was sold for in Dec. '58), then skip the celebration 'cause we're not interested.

Other ideas: ski school pros wearing 1958 clothing and gear
Pres Smith sticking around for autographs of a photo of him circa 1958
Open up the "Killington Museum" with ski memorabilia from 1958.

Dec 13 this year is a Saturday.

Free skiing for anyone born on Dec 13th.
Free skiing for anyone 50 years old.
50's bands in Mahogany Ridge and the Wobbly.

The first 50 people to buy a lift ticket get a free ticket for the next day, ie they get a 2 day ticket for the price of a 1 day.

A 50 gate nastar type course set up, winner gets a commemorative trophy.

At the oldest lift (?) on the mountain, one or 2 pomas is painted gold, and each person that gets it gets a voucher.

Season pass to the best 1958 outfit, including boots, bindings, and skis and poles.

A fitting tribute to Killington's history would be to announce they are staying open as long as skiers keep coming.

Killington has already announced that there will be some sort of celebration weekend for Killington’s 50th anniversary. That was months ago in some sort of pass holder newsletter or another emailer thing that most here dont get but has been shared with all.

you are interpreting the words "that most here dont get" as being a concept the writer means physically not getting the email describing the celebration :zzz :yawn

Skippy, Skippy, Skippy maybe you should have gone to summer school.

First sentence in thread:

"I was out up on the access road yesterday and ran into a local business owner who is very active in promoting the area. This has nothing to do with KSRP unless they want to get involved. This is an initiative of the Economic Development Committee and the Killington Chamber of commerce, life goes on even if Powdr and you the "Demon Spawn" thinks that the town is helpless without the participation Of KSRP.

I will give you that , for now, the town needs the co-operation of KSRP to hold events because of a lack of real estate to hold events, but that is being looked at by the Town.

If you look to the events page of the Killington site you will see the wine festival for this weekend, notice the telephone number for more info, the Killington Chamber of Commerce, not KSRP. The town and the Chamber of Commerce is not waiting for KSRP to get on the band wagon, as a matter of fact the wagon is leaving, and by the time Powdr realizes that they need a seat it will be too late.

Every single suggestion made so far has to do with what POWDR should do. If your question has to do with something otherwise clearly everyone took it the wrong way as I did.

"life goes on even if Powdr thinks that the town is helpless without the participation Of KSRP." :bull Thats sh*t. And I am talking beyond just the simple 50 year celebration or any other event.
