Post by BoozeTan »

-From top of Bear Quad, straight away was Falls Brook now named Ridgeview
-Bear Trap is now Bear Claw
-what was Bear Claw is now the Stash
-Frostline and part of GE are also now The Stash
-Upper GE is now Bear Trax
-Wanderer is now Bear Cub
-Falls Brook is also now Bear Cub
-Middle Dream Maker renamed Northway..Why? answer from Spin..."because it provides a cut off to the Northside/Northbrook area. We wanted the trail name to be representative of the direction" So the left off of Skyeburst that was Dream Maker is Northway
-Needles eye Lift line now called Stitchline
-Viper Pit renamed Skyeburst
-what was Skyeburst past that intersection is now part of Bear Claw

Ridgeview was always Ridgeview down to the SRT.
The Stairs ( or Steps?) was always there. I wonder if they cleaned out the upper part.
ASC closed off Snowshed Crossover years ago - that's what the nets, NBQ were for were for.
Shorty - Upper Bear Claw was a route down fro the SPQ to Bear base. They gave up on that idea pretty quickly
because of traffic where it intersected SC.
The Stash? Let's ski it and then see what we think.
You really want to improve Killington? $4.50 pints of Switchback like at the Bush.

I have told you I think K should have a longer season in our communications.

I have openly said on this board on numerous occasions that Killington should have a longer season.

Killington has openly communicated the following:

“We will follow a similar opening schedule as last season. Making snow up high as temperatures permit and opening the Killington Basin trails as early as possible.

Nyberg also has specifically said that they are flexible for opening sooner and staying open later.

I hope flexible means more than one week like this season.

They have already included that week into this years schedule and have also announced a planned opening ahead of last year. Another week would bring them into Late April, and I think thats a best case scenerio. Them staying open another week into May is highly unlikely, especially with all sorts of old asc mountains all staying open too now that K isn't the only resort "allowed" to stay open late with them all being asc mtns.

Tom just said: "Will we open earlier or stay open a week or so longer? These are decisions that we'll make at a more appropriate time based upon weather and snow conditions."

Nyberg has said they are flexible. He also said basically that if it makes sense based on the weather, conditions, and ski visits they will consider staying open later. All in different words of course.

Ohh the irony...

You have all fallen into the POWDR trap of lowered expectations.

Here we are begging for increased flexablity, when what they had previously was a real strategy for opening early and staying open in the spring....

FLEXABLITY: Ok, if the weather is great or if we get 3 feet of snow we'll open up, maybe a week or two before our scheduled date...maybe. If it's a cold and snowy April, maybe we'll stay open a week or two later....we'll look like heroes!!! But if the weather is bad, all bets are off. Bottom line, don't count on us opening before Thanksgiving or being open past a few weeks in April.

STRATEGY: Ok, we want to be the first to open and last to close....how are we going to do that...? Well, we'll take advatage of our elevation and use a double chair with a mid station to blow a limited amount of snow above 3500ft, meaning we can get open with a short cold weather window. Then well blow a bunch of snow on one of our north facing slopes, and it will take a long time for it to melt out...we could be open until June!!

SEE THE DIFFERENCE???

IMHO, if they were to return to some sort of strategy for a longer season, the most feasable is to install fan gun snowmaking on the superstar trail pod, with the capacity to blow enough snow in 24 hours to open on. This would give them a very likely chance of opening the first weekend in November, perhaps the last weekend in October, and wouldn't require any fancy lift arrangements with uploading and downloading. Then they could blow extra snow on that trail pod throughout the season, maintaining the snow surface, and stay open into May.

Mt. Snow already uses this strategy with their opening, and it worked extremely well for them last year.

Nope. Too low. To get a reliable October/early November, you need an upper mountain lift that starts at 3500 feet. The Glades Triple is perfect. When they replace a Snowdon lift, they'll have high speed download capability. It's a 5 minute walk to walk up the Killink connector from the Great Northern wrap-around... or they can run a handle tow up the power line that runs parallel to Killink.

The Glades Triple is also perfect when you're stuck on it for 20 minutes in the bitter cold and you're sitting between two Zoners while both keep saying "woohoo woo hoo hoo." Fun times, fun times (except for a few brief moments when we got off the lift and our legs were frozen and had to ski down.

You've been floating this idea for at least a year now....not going to happen, especially without a lodge and bathrooms. If they were going to run an upper mountain lift, it would be to somehow service the K-1 and northridge triple. But, again, that would probably never happen. Maybe they can take the learn to ski poma and put it on upper downdraft....hahah.

The best bet by far is to have better snowmaking on the superstar pod, much more realistic to have happen. 2600 ft at the KBL base, and 3750 at the top of superstar, that is enough.
