Anyone Heading West For The Season ?
Anyone Heading West this year ?
Ive been wanting to go to Colorado and ski for a season for a few years now, but a broken shoulder & 3 surgeries put the kabosh on my plans for 4 years. Now that I'm finally healed it looks like its going to happen. I have my air and a job @BC waiting or with the Epic Pass I may not even work LOL and just ski.
Anyone here thinking of doing the same thing?

Not for the season, but Doria and I will do a week in Utah Feb vacation. 2 Days at Park City, 2 at Canyons, the rest somewhere else...

nope
The west sucks, buncha spoiled brats with all that terrain and snow. Its -5* its too cold to go skiing today, oh it only snowed 5 inches, I think I'll stay in bed. Buncha pussies if you ask me
I much prefer it out here, it makes you a better skier and a better person having to deal with r*in-freezes, ncp, storms that people jinx by posting storm totals, and other "character building" exercises. Besides, when you're starving, any little scrap of food tastes like the finest steak you've ever eaten.
at least I'm going to continue telling myself that until I get the opportunity to move out west full time

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

I agree with you that it definitely makes you a better skier coming from the east (im baised though as I grew up skiing there). Dealing with mixed conditions does truly makes you a much more well rounded skier.laseranimal wrote:nope

I will also agree that there are a bunch of "jaded" individuals here who only ski when its "deep" or "bluebird", and/or "not too cold". Thankfully in Utah it never really gets "that" cold. I found myself being jaded once or twice this past season, but still managed over 80 days while working 50+ hours a week. Again I grew up in the east so i just like to get out...and really until spring there is no such thing as ice..early morning "frozen coral" yes, but that softens with sun quickly.
What I will say is that the snow and conditions are something I dont miss about the east...
Laser...you'd truly love it out here....you can earn HUGE turns pretty much right outside the door and its deep....
For the most part, as seen above, im with you nearly 100%. It was tough to make the move, but I havent thought about looking back for a second.

Consider the opposite. I grew up in the West. Spent my entire life skiing the Sierras & the Rockies. Then had to do a short work stint on the EC. Went skiing once - NEVER again. Just not worth it - crowded, low snow (ice wasn't so bad), but it was just too depressing seeing dirt everywhere. Glad I got to move back to Utah. Am I jaded? Hell yeah...but I know what's good and I know how to maximize my fun.KMartman wrote:I agree with you that it definitely makes you a better skier coming from the east (im baised though as I grew up skiing there). Oh, and I think that the West has the best skiers. Go figure. Biases work both ways.

Re: Anyone Heading West For The Season ?
I learned to ski when I was 6 in Colorado then moved east. Our family skied Vermont mostly. So I grew up skiing thin trails and fighting crowds at K and others. I remember when there was a chair were the K1 is now. Don't miss those chair rides!
Getting jaded sounds good to me.
The Epic pass is only $579 for Vail, BC, Copper, Breckenridge, Keystone & Heavenly. How can you beat that. And Vail/BC Ski School pays $60 each time a student returns. Don't get that at K or Okemo or anywhere here.
Plane leave 10/7 can't wait

Re: Anyone Heading West For The Season ?
Have fun! Wish I was out there for the season. Just can't beat what you get with the Epic Pass. I think it was almost $2000 last season. We hit BC last season and stayed in Avon. I like BC. Never gets crowded. Also, can't beat the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies at the escalator! By the way, the Epic pass doesn't include Copper. They're Intrawest. We'll probably be heading to BC again this season and hitting BC, Vail. Throw in Copper or Breck 1 day. Using my buddy's pass discounts. Can't afford to spend almost $100 on a 1 day ticket!NewEnglander wrote:I learned to ski when I was 6 in Colorado then moved east. Our family skied Vermont mostly. Re: Anyone Heading West For The Season ?
Vail/Beavercreek 2nd week in March, probably Copper a day on the way out and back. Already saving my pennies for the too expensive lift tickets.
