So you think Killington's Peak lodge is bad?

Not even close to the lodge at the top of Wildcat in NH. We hiked up there a couple weeks ago and took these pics. They just built this last summer. This is wear and tear from this past winter.

I'm not a carpenter, but I'd say the foundation looks solid, but what were they thinking with the building material for the rest - exposed 2x4's? I"m likely out of my league in discussing matter such as these - but i agree it looks like crap

Thats been there for 50 + years, it's the old Gondia building. It does have the web cam that looks at Tuckermans mounted on it.

Since it is on NFS land, it would require a 500 page Environmental Impact statement, 4 public hearings, and the blessing of the governors executive council to scrape and put a coat of paint on it. Probably cost close to a million! Cheaper to leave it alone and add another zip line at the base which is on private land!

I was just joking when I said it was new. I did notice they were doing some carpentry work inside. Don't know what the point is? :? Obviously needs to be torn down. The scenery is awesome from there and won Best Scenery in Ski magazine a couple times. I'm pretty sure the new Resort guide had it #1 again this year. Don't have the Resort guide in front of me. I'll post some of the pics I took looking in the other direction later. :-) The Appalachian trail practically runs right through it also...

I'm sure when it was new (1958) it looked a little nicer. Anyone remember General Stark Mountain's summit "lodge"? But you must think some people are really gullible to say that the photo is of a ONE-YEAR old building.

From what I've heard (I've skied there once), they've been doing pretty well, maybe they want to make it into a lodge in the future? I've never been inside it, but from the looks of it, put some paint, and some windows in where the gondola used to enter, and you'd probably have a nice lodge, and the high ceiling would be cool I'd guess. Looks like a solid foundation, the windows are all intact, and other than the plywood covering the gondi entrance, the rest just looks like it needs some paint. The deck type thing on top doesn't have any obvious problems from that angle either.

Also, a more likely possibility, is that given it's size, they use it for storage, and since they'd never be allowed to build much up there again, they probably want to keep the building intact and usable.
