I'm new to the area as well and have been asking around too. I've heard that Killington is a little bit bigger but Butternut will consistently have better conditions. Take that FWIW.. Looking forward to trying them both and making some turns...

OK come on now. Does anyone here really think these guys aren't trolls? Anyone with internet access would know that there is no possible comparison between Butternut and Killington. Ok they are both ski areas in New England but that's about where the comparison stops.

Gnar is short for gnarly.
Killington has something for everyone from beginner to expert.
However, if like you said wifey is a beginner, you may want to check out a smaller place like Bromley in VT. Its a fun mountain. Killington can be very intimidating, especially if you dont know your way around the mountain You will most likely get lost and may have a hard time finding your way back to where ever it was that you happened to start the day. Plus lift tix at killington are pretty expensive whereas a place like Bromley I believe is about $30 for midweek. If you are a good skier/rider, by all means take on Killington, There are a couple great beginner areas for the first or few timers

What is a troll and gaper and why are you people calling me them? I do have an internet connection (obviously, since I am posting genuses).

All I am looking for is a family mountain with good conditions and Killington has certainly come up (and so has Butternut), whats the big deal?

I briefly looked at the websites and Killington looks better, but butternut gets more freshies. Just a good natured southerner looking to make some epic turns.

Any thoughts?
where down south? you a college hoops or football fan? if so, what schools?

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

Sundown is so Gnar that Highway Star is afraid to show his face there after Greg challenged him to a ski off.
