Can we get some snowmaking on DEVIL'S FIDDLE...?

Post by Highway Star »

The Fiddle is open, but it's basicly a rock dodging mess. Not fun rock dodging, but skiing bumps while wrecking your skis. It can be done, but it's not fun or worth it. The trail needs some amount of snowmaking, at least on skiers left and the lower-middle narrow part.

Snowmaking seems to be ongoing, we've seen it on Skyelark, Lower skyeburst and OL recently. What's stopping them from making snow on the Fiddle for a day or two. What about upper Vertigo while they're at it? Seems like not that much snowmaking, when so much has already been done....?

I know Killington reads this board and the people have contacts there. Anybody know what's up?

I don't know what's up but let's hope that this storm coming through brings much needed snow to the Fiddle and the rest of the mountain.

one of the few things i agree w/highway about ... fiddle does have some nice bumps but when you have to dodge rocks every couple of turns it kinda takes the fun out of it. i know, where's my sense of adventure ... and sure some nat will help but maybe only through saturday morning. we'd need 2 ft minimum to make that trail right. i don't know what powdr's problem is because the last few times snow has been made on the fiddle, it becomes the most popular trail on the hill. it's like a party out there. so the excuse about not making snow on a trail no one skis doesn't wash.

vertigo from sunoco road down is skiing beautifully except for the area right below the crossover. definitely need a blow there. it'd also be nice to get the headwall open. sure wednesday's dump might help open it but again we need 2-3 ft minimum to open it for more than a week.

For an $82 Saturday lift ticket, you would think snowmaking would run all week long! :Toast

If I were a shop, I'd be handing out discount tickets for tunes at the base of the Fiddle. It's a mess. Given its southeastern exposure, steep pitch, and abundance of rocks, it really needs a heavy man made base layer for it to be skiable without destroying equipment. I hardly expect POWDR to do it, but it would be a nice treat. I suspect the pipes don't work.

actually asc last blew on the fiddle in '06. i think they blew on it a few times-less frequently the deeper into debt they got. and for the reasons you mentioned, it was always intended to be a snowmaking trail and of course SKI used to bury the thing. but powdr doesn't have any excuses ...

I thought it skied pretty well on Sunday. Yes, it was a little bony but the rocks keep the masses away. I was on brand new skis and didn't have a problem picking a line without many consequences. If they bury it in man-made, it loses its character.
Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

No excuse not to have a solid manmade base on the Fiddle, or Upper Vertigo.

No. The concept isn't that hard to comprehend. Some trails just need a manmade base. This is one of them.

20" will definitely help but this isn't like getting 20" in utah. should probably ski great through sat morning. most likely be picked pretty clean by the end of the weekend.

dude...ive skied that thing 100's of times before with very little base...its ONLY PTEX...and skis are only tools meant to be replaced. Go ski it...its much more interesting with thin cover...do the woods to skiers right of the Fiddle need a manmade base? I think NOT...skied many many a day...you must remember K-mart used to be my stomping grounds for most of my early life skiing, sh*t up until 2 years ago.

thanks for the heads up...I know i really have trouble with my comprehension. FOOL!
