Great Day, only out from 11:15 to 1:15, a few problems, had to leave early.

Snowing heavily, several inches of snow on the ground already. Very windy at the tops of the mountains, towards 1pm it was getting windier down a bit lower too. Bear Mountain Quad and North Ridge Triple closed. Everything else going, including the Canyon Quad.

Great Conditions, recent snowmaking on some trails in the past few days, including a new section of Great Eastern.

Wind blowing hard on K Peak, Great Northern down to Bear Trax was icy.

First tracks on Lower Ovation, Awesome!!

Not many people out, and a bit colder than I was expecting. So much untouched powder on the wide open slopes all over!

Lower Skyelark, Fantastic!
Image

Upper Ovation, Great!!
Image

First tracks on Lower Ovation! Just opened, one patroller just skied by, and theres the second one. No Windblown conditions!!!
Image

Double Dipper, fresh untouched pow!
Image

Upper Ridge Run, groomed overnight and skiing Great!
Image

Fresh Pow all over, including Home Stretch.

Great pics SS - most people might be in the trees. I know that's where I would be with this type of snow. Sorry to hear you had problems. Did you see Tetiana from the WTC at KBL?

One of my problems was my goggles were fogged up and the thingys blocking snow from coming in my vents were gone, so I just couldn't see a thing. Wanted to get in the woods, like everyone else, but didn't want to not see something and ski into a tree!! :D

Nope, didn't see any of the broadcasting... Watching the wtc now, still haven't seen anything from K...

How do you keep the spare pair from getting wet/sweaty inside your jacket? My shell traps a lot of moisture... Outside pockets maybe?

I've always gone sans goggles when they wont cooperate...as long as its not cold enough for your eyelashes to freeze together when you blink.

It was dumping out there. Run of the day was wherever you were. OL was calf deep in a few spots, everything else was excellent as well, often boot deep or better. Pictures below don't reflect the depth as much as I'd like but show the snow nonetheless. Windy and cold at the peaks but better as soon as you dropped down. Did I say it was dumping? It still is and is supposed to continue late into the evening.

Ran into Spinmaster doing an interview with the Weather Channel. No need for spinning today!

Edit: Forgot to mention the visibility - zilch!

snow was good everywhere, except where the winds were howling. around the corner from K1 with no visibility was pretty sketchy as the winds were pushing you around on the icy base. did highline 1st which was alright, some windblown spots here and there but it was good. cascade was awesome before noon. lower rime to eastfall was SICK both times we cruised over there. did one down superstar which was rather untracked around 1 this afternoon. made my way over to the snowden quad for some fun in the woods. not too many people in the woods as others have reported. tomorrow should be awesome. finished out the day with a long gondi ride up and down cascade which was still good, but not as good as the am...hope this wind dies down a bit, or wind holds will be abundant tomorrow...

10 inches so far looks about right. Lots of wind scoured patches, but lots of good stuff too. Stayed on Snowdon all day with Geoff and Borgy. 2nd powder day tomorrow!
