BMMC report

Post by tyrolean_skier »

What a sad day. The only people grilling anything was the Kzone crew. Only a few souls attempted to set up but gave up because the wind was blowing things away. Many people opted not to even set up because of the not BYOB policy. Someone was selling really cool t-shirts that said 2009 Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge - The Protest Continues and the other side it stated We're Still Not Happy and had a sad face on it. The front had a bunch of negative signs like no drink, no dogs, no sleds, no fire and no fun. Powdr you really killed a great party and today was proof of that. We've been to many BMMC were the weather was as lousy as today and there were plenty of campsites set up. So do not use the weather as an excuse for the failure of today. The Kzone crew still had fun but we wish we could have had the fun at BMMC as in past years. After grilling we moved the party to one of the zoners houses.

Ok, BMMC had only one campsite, (Kzone) which smuggled in more than enough alcohol to get everyone hammered. The cops, and the cop wannabes, out numbered the alcoholics, and they still failed. Miserably. I can't even begin to describe the absurdity of it. I have two choices, believe that Killington/POWDR has been forced into this by the Vermont DLC, or that Killington/POWDR believes this is a rational business decision. I don't care, because either way, POWDR does not come off well. If it really is the former, they need to man-up, and take on the DLC. Law suit time. If not, f' 'em, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Doubtless POWDR will blame their bottom line on the weather. Get real: a ski area that blames a poor showing on wind and snow needs to seriously think about their business model. The pathetic thing is that POWDR considers Kzone the "enemy", and yet we were the only ones that kept the BMMC faith alive. Sadly, the real enemies are people like skiing snow, aware4444, etc, who are all too willing to tell them what they want to hear, not what they need to hear, in order to be successful. Yeah, skiing snow, you are helping them fail.

Bottom line: POWDR has again failed because they have not listened to their customers. Is anyone surprised?

How was that BBQ on the Deck going? In past years, the campers would get hungry and buy up those burgers, dogs and chicken BBQ. They also had Moguls there carving up racks of ribs. Didn't notice too many bodies jumping on them. And as shortskis pictures show, that mob scene in the Bear Mtn Lounge was just too much. Take away the party and you take away the sales. Wonder how many Bud Light swills hey sold today?

The deck was empty, the bar was empty. Absolutely no way you can spin this as a success. Kzone packed up about 1 PM, long after the band had given up, but then, was there ever a band less deserving of a "tribute" than Journey??? What do they have planned for next year, a Barry Manilow tribute band? Who are the losers that make these decisions??? Last year, the band was sayin' "POWDR Sucks". It was worse this year, the employees were saying it.

Hilarious. We invited the entire BMMC party back to our place, and nearly every one came. Awesome! You must have been there somewhere, aware4444, sorry we missed you...

There was only one group of 'remember when' guys at the football games with their faces painted blue and orange in 20 degree weather trying so hard to be cool. Most people thought you were trying too hard.

Interesting day out there. Actually found some snow in spots. Hit the course bumps in the afternoon – sugary soft, but the BMMC was sad disaster overall.

Just to cheer you up, here’s a few pix of the Bay 1 Alt Party.

Bay 1 Party – bad craziness.

and that's me on the sidelines next to the 1st air. at least my kids didn't get intimidated by the "crowds". i had a great ski season, so did my family. it's just sad that it had to end this way. we'll be back, but it's too bad my sons will never know what the BMMC was about. it would have been cool to experience the vibe with them as they aged. we can live without the BMMC, but it's hard to give up a tradition, any tradition. pretty bummed right now....

the DLC had nothing to do with the decision to prohibit alcohol. it is all KSRP's deal...

to be fair an objective, the weather sucked. For those that opted not to go to the BMMC you could have driven to Stowe to attend the Sugar Sl. You get to pay $100 stand in the r*in to watch your kid, pay $4.50 for vitamin water and get told that if you bring your lunch please eat it downstairs. Oh btw the mountian has no snow so they got to ski on brown mud! K isn't all that bad after all now is it? :?c

You haven't been to BMMC much in the past several years have you?

In the past, even on sucky weather days there was at least 200 times the number of people out tailgating, grilling etc. On a bluebird day, I wouldn't even want to estimate how many people would be there.

It is kinda hard to be two places at once. :-)
That's us standing around with grills going over at BMMC.
Decided to go over and represent for the Dorkster.

Granted, it's hard to pick us out of the crowd in the pic posted.
