Thank you for your email concerning this year’s Bud Light Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge. We appreciate and understand the connection many of our guests have with the history of this event.



For the past 29 years, the Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge has been a marquee spring event at Killington Resort. Past winners have included a host of local amateur bumpers - testing their ability on the steepest, longest mogul run in the east - many of whom have gone on to win Olympic, World Cup and World Championships mogul events.



While the event was conceived 29 years ago to showcase Bear Mountain and Outer Limits, over the past two decades the event has also brought on a significant spring party flavor, with mogul challenge fans setting up camps, bar-b-queuing and drinking to celebrate spring.



However, over the past few years, the on-snow party scene has grown significantly and the over-indulgence of alcoholic beverages brought onto resort property has endangered the safety of our guests and employees. In addition, as the resort operator, Vermont State Land leaseholder and Vermont State liquor license holder, we are responsible for maintaining reasonable control of the events and actions we promote at our venues on both private and state leased lands. There are consequences and liabilities for us as a company if we do not acknowledge this obligation and act appropriately. We understand that emotions run high concerning the Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge; however, we will not compromise the safety of our guests and employees or jeopardize the ability to operate our business.



Over the past three years we have taken significant steps to eliminate alcoholic beverages brought onto resort property and state leased land to the extent that alcohol is not permitted at all Killington Resort events, with the exception of areas licensed by the Vermont Department of Liquor Control. In addition, dogs, campfires and sledding are also not allowed because the safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority at Killington Resort.

thats corporate speak for saying we will eventually eliminate the event!!!! what crapola....for 20 years no problem new owner comes in & in one season destroys the event....i dont mind paying for the beer & food from k just get rid of the security & make it a great atmosphere....

I may be, but I'd like to hope not. I got the generic corporate response, but I've also gotten the personal, "...what else do you expect us to do?" response too. I've made suggestions. They've responded. We'll see where this goes...

It is the same in any situation, it is all about setting a tone and your approach. StormChaser is not wasting his time. I have not always been on the same side of issues with Powder and or/SP Land, but have always found them to be responsive and willing to discuss options if the approach was non-abrasive. If you attack, the response will always be a counter-attack, that is human nature.

Not counting, but let's just say I have been to maybe half of the BMMC's
Think I saw 1or 2 incidents in all that time...that the person's fellow friends immediately cured. No tolerance for violence was accepted, ever.
Friends take care of friends, and put them in line very quickly at such an event.
Never saw a need for your gestapo mentality, ever.
Never had the liquor control story. That's new with you.
Even with coolers out by the grills, a great many still went to the deck to mingle, and yes, spent money, including me.
So, are you blaming your insurance provider for your failures now...or someone else?
