I'll correct it : fra diavolo (that second word means devil).BoozeTan wrote:agreed.Stormchaser wrote:Best sandwiches - Blackies (hands down)
Best pizza - Outback (as long as they're not jammed - they rush when busy and it shows)
Best breakfast - Johhny Boys (though the wait staff can get stressed when busy)
Best dinner - prime rib last season at Garlic was the bomb (I've had a mix of good meals and bad meals at most places on the hill, but my biggest disappointment has been Choices. Been there 3-4 times, and food has been meh...considering all the great accolaides people give this place, maybe I just had too high of expectations.)
Best dessert - Sunup Bakery (also good for quick breakfast when you don't have time to sit down)
Best appetizers - Lookout (simple but always good - especially the crab/artichoke dip!)
Best wings - Sushi Yoshi (most of the rest of the places have some sort of spicy barbeque that's unique to the area)
when my house was in bridgewater, we would call in our breakfast sandwich order to Blackies and pick it up on the way to the hill. always good and always ready. got to the point that the guy would toss them to us as we walked in the door....
Best Dinner - the Garlics seafood (and Im gonna spell this wrong) fra diavlo....

We;ll have to try Dom's this season. THanks.Dwight wrote:The best Pizza is by far Domenic's, Outback was good when I first moved to K (over 6 years ago), but the quality has gone down every year since.
The best breakfast sandwich is from the Deli, by the post office.
The lookout has the best staff and a pretty good Cheesesteak.

Don't get your hopes up. In this pizza eater's view, Dom's is no better, and maybe not quite as good as the fallen from grace Outback pizza.SkiDork wrote:We;ll have to try Dom's this season. At some point, try "The Porch", located in Rochester center, about 15 miles or so north of Killington on Route 100. Absolutely great food, fairly reasonable prices and a cool atmosphere. For beer connoisseurs, ask for the locally brewed "Porch Pint".
You will not leave disappointed.

More like 20-25 miles from points on the access road, but we've eaten there too and like it a lot. Great place to stop on the way back from Sugarbush.Coydog wrote:At some point, try "The Porch", located in Rochester center, about 15 miles or so north of Killington on Route 100. Re: Favorite Meal in Killington?
There's a place in Rochester that we stop for breakfast on the way to MRG from K. Is that the same place? If it is, it's a bit more than 15 miles, but the breakfast is great. I'm not sure if it is the same place though. Can't remember the name. Does the porch do breakfast?Coydog wrote:At some point, try "The Porch", located in Rochester center, about 15 miles or so north of Killington on Route 100. Tried Dom's last season...wasn't impressed.

Re: Favorite Meal in Killington?
That's probably the Rochester Cafe. Great sit down breakfast. The Porch is located directly across the street and is not open for breakfast, but there is also a funky bookstore that offers great coffee and good breakfast items for the road.junior wrote:There's a place in Rochester that we stop for breakfast on the way to MRG from K. You guys are right, Rochester is more like 20 miles from points on the Access Road.
By the way, Blanche of Blanche and Bill's Pancake House in Bridgewater Corners has sold the place and retired to Boston. The new owners are a nice couple that appear to want to preserve the character of the place, including the recipes (try the waffles) and world famous shrine (you know what I'm talking about).
Also, try the Swiss Farm Inn in Pittsfield. Family run business with a family atmosphere and the best bang for the buck for breakfast. Recommended.
Re: Favorite Meal in Killington?
30 minute drive for me. It's pretty much the halfway point between Killington and Sugarbush. A friend o' mine bought and rehabbed an old brick school house just east of the green on Bethel Mtn Road back in the early 1990's. We all used to call it "Canada" since it was so far. I bought him a Canadian flag one year for Christmas.Coydog wrote:

Have you been there since they reopened Saturday? A friend was in 2 weeks ago and heard from Blanche it was sold.Coydog wrote: By the way, Blanche of Blanche and Bill's Pancake House in Bridgewater Corners has sold the place and retired to Boston. Some that worked for her and knew her were disappointed she didn't advertise the closing. They wanted to get in for a last meal and say goodbye. Saw a car with California plates in her spot this weekend.

Let your tracks be lost in the dark and snow.

I was there on her last day. She was training the new owners and extremely excited about finally retiring. The new folks seem very nice, but I believe this will be their first winter with snow.SkiNutDave wrote:Have you been there since they reopened Saturday? Had breakfast there last weekend. The blueberry pancakes were great as always.
New owners seemed very nice and very eager to please. There was a pretty
good crowd with all tables filled. Saw the place listed a few months ago
for about 250K for the business/house. Doesn't seem like a bad price, I wonder
what that place brings in per year. It can't have much overhead.

the best pizza in killington was powderhounds (where the garlic is). our best meals last year were noel's in mendon and believe it or not south station in rutvegas.Mister Moose wrote:Don't get your hopes up. Powderhounds. Mmmm. Thai angel hair pasta & crab fritters. Skiddy's bar toys. Woo woo's. Tapas and expensive martinis at The Garlic is pretty good but the Skiddy bar at Powdehounds was way better.skiadikt wrote:the best pizza in killington was powderhounds (where the garlic is). our best meals last year were noel's in mendon and believe it or not south station in rutvegas.
My most memorable meal last year was the Sushi Yoshi closing party. We had about 10 people at a table and scorpion bowls were half price. Rogman & Doria, Phantom, Mr & MrsG, the Mooses, G-Smashed and Dora the Explora, I think Bubba & H, maybe a few other Bay 1 professionals. The other end of the table was dawdling so we got the bright idea of linking together those long straws to poach the other scorpion bowl. I'm sure glad I wasn't driving that evening!
