Just sent my email off regarding the closing date and Spring Pass.

So next year K should tell everyone that they will close on April 10th and then stay open an extra two weeks, this would be over delivering and you would be happy.

They can't. They have already advertised "Early May" on next year's season passes and accepted money for them.

snow conditions will be fine. so to be closing based on a forecast 10 days out (we know how accurate they are) is sheer madness. what credibility does saying may 2011 have now. hell why not say through memorial day ...

Sunday, April 25 will be the final day of operations for the 2009-10 ski and snowboard season. ... However, based upon the weather forecast for next week calling for cloudy skies, r*in and cool temperatures, combined with a thinning snow pack, it is time for us to end the season on a high note. This weekend’s weather forecast, which is calling for sunshine and temperatures into the 40s and lower 50s, will provide a great opportunity to close out the season.

What I want to know is how you can close on conditions for May 2 based on a week away or more forecast. This is closing on "forecast permitting" not "conditions permitting".

This spring we’re also offering a Spring Pass with unlimited skiing and riding for just $169 from March 22 through May 2 (weather and snow conditions permitting).

We all remember the thin cover that existed for opening weekend, and the following weekend. "Some walking required" signs were up, and that was ceretainly true. If "Some walking required" conditions permitted being open then, why not now?

As long as they understand that may result in lost revenue. Every purchase that one makes involves a cost benefit analysis. For those of us who value spring skiing as highly as powder days, the benfit of extra spring days is a competitive advantage for Killington over another mountain. After all you can't count on snow fall but you can count on spring slush. If they under promise some people may walk away to another mountain with a firm committment to stay open as long as possible.

Lets face it...Killington has the best spring set up. The main spring trail - Superstar is right under a lift. Tailgaiters parked at the bottom of the lift can watch the skiing. Bands can play and be heard right at the base of the chair. The lodge is right at the base of the chair. No other mountain in VT that I can think of has such a good spring skiing set up. They need to take advantage of that.

I do think Sunday scared them. No one was there and the skiing was pretty darn good. On the other hand...Saturday looked profitible. Mahogony Ridge was full even if the trails and and lift were not. I never got scanned Saturday. I was only scanned 3-4 times out of my 20 or so runs on Sunday. I hope that scanning statistics were not used in the decision to close. I imagine that there will be quite a crowd this weekend.

Um, whomever you are aware4444, but some of us are used to having the mountain opened until the end of May . . . and that was in this century . . . "teasing" that saying April 10 and staying open later, is just WRONG . . . I'm old, and realize change is difficult, but this early closing is not RIGHT . . .

I really agree with you on the early closing but I really get annoyed when people start with the Attorney General nonsense. Just need to keep it real. By the way I'm probably close to or older so I remember also.......

I'd love it if they'd close om 5/2 and would be on the hill. Was on the hill the last 2 days and there is plenty of snow on what's open (BTW ROTD = ovation). However, the reality is it is a ghost town here right now and they are certainly not making $ midweek. Why not consider closing during the week and opening the weekend of 5/1?

I presume you're unaware of the other times the AG office has stepped in for Killington violating consumer protection law? You can't take somebody's money and then not deliver the promised service simply because you don't feel like it. If Superstar melts out in the next week, this is all moot but it doesn't look like it's going to.

I want to send an e-mail complaining about the closing date. This is my first time complaining on this board. I skied on Sunday and there was plenty of snow both on the open trails and many of the closed ones. "Conditions permitting" ought to mean that if there is enough snow they will open until May 2nd. They can't know whether there will be enough snow on May 2nd until next week. It's thus wrong for them to announce that they will close this weekend.

What's really pathetic and extremely misleading is that JUST TWO DAYS AGO Killington advertised the following in it's official twitter account:

"Yet another reason not to drive further north! We received another inch of snow overnight and we're skiing through Sunday May 2.
4:17 AM Apr 18th"

I don't know how they can get away with saying this 48 hours ago and now saying that they will close a week early. The forecast hasn't significantly changed since then. It seems that when they say "conditions permitting" they mean "if enough people are coming to make it worth our time". Perhaps that's how they want to do business (and they're entitled to doing this), but, if so, they shouldn't mislead the public into thinking that they will be skiing until May 2 if there's enough snow on the ground.

In any case, can someone please provide me the best e-mail address for me to voice my dissatisfaction?

On Facebook? Killington must have removed it. Now that's REALLY weak sh*t on their part.

Maybe different people who follow them on Facebook should post the link every hour or half hour so they're up all night knocking off the posts?

You're kidding, right? If I'm gonna spend money on a flight, haul my equipment, pay for a car rental and lodging, Drive to the airport, parking, etc... I would rather fly to Utah or Colorado than Sugarloaf.

Maybe you are unaware that when you run a business in Vermont and make any business decisions there are enough wackos to get the AG, who does nothing anyway, to step in. If they over delivered would you have paid more?
