Online ski shopping
What sites do Kzoners use? I know demo is the way to go but if you know exactly what to get, where do you find the best deals?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Re: Online ski shopping
I have had very good luck with eBay in May when shops are blowing out inventory. You can often find 60%-off or better for this year's ski/integral binding when there has been a cosmetic change.

Re: Online ski shopping
I've purchased a few pair without trouble on eBay. However, the last few pairs I found that end of season I was able to get a great deal at ski shops as well. Advantage with a ski shop, you don't have to pay for mounting if you work a deal.
Re: Online ski shopping
evogear.com is where I usually get my skis and what not. Doesn't hurt that a friend of mine works there and helps me out...

I've also used Als Ski Barn with good results

Re: Online ski shopping
Do a search on eBay for your ski model, and the results will typically show a bunch of shops that have that specific model available plus the eBay link to their EBay stores. This is a method to get you into their online sales system. You will certainly find a ton of models in the online stores from Emilio's Ski Shop, Aspen Ski, Evogear, O2 Gear Shop, Sierra Trading Post, and a ton of others. There are many eBay stores doing business online that are actually ski shops somewhere in the US. Some Vermont ski shops do business this way using a different name. Don't be surprised to see a ski for sale from some little place in the upper midwest, or a name like Aspen Ski with an address far away from Colorado. Makes no difference. And when you see a boatload of a certain leftover ski for sale, consider why. It's probably a dog, sales were low, and shops and the factory are stuck with hundreds of new crummy skis to dump out. Shops get incentives from factories/distributors for taking on this kind of inventory to move for them. So don't think that a $450 package is being sold with no margin. If you have a conscience about the retailers plight, just pay list at Xmas.
Be REAL careful about ski length, and especially about bindings. Many have rental/demo bindings, or mis-matched branding. This means that a K2 ski designed and sold with a specific Marker gliding binding in your ski shop is not the same setup an online offer for the same ski with a Salomon binding. It may perform different, and also change or void the warranty. Demo bindings have become pretty light now, might actually be no impact to weight or function, but do your research up front. Get real specific about what model year you are buying - some model years are 2-3 years old but will still be a great ski and the price should be rock bottom. I have found $1,200-$1,300 list price skis brand new with correct bindings 2-3 years old for $350 and free shipping. Just be patient, check twice a week because some places have only one item left in the size you want. Use Pay Pal with buyer protection. I've never been screwed, but it surely happens enough.
I always shop the access road shops first in late spring, but also see pricing $250-350 above online deals. If within $100, I go local. Summer has best pricing but less selection. Then in the fall a better selection starts showing up but pricing is higher because the season is starting up again. I ain't rich enough to fork over $850-$950 for boards "on sale" in K.
