I've never seen KMS kids act any differently than any of the other people on the mountain.

Re: B team got lost off the back today
Just a clarification here, KMS Killington Mountain School and KWSC Killington Winter Sports Club are not the same. KMS is the Academic and Ski Program, Killington Winter Sports Club is the old KSC Killington Sports Club. The group lost was from the KWSC not KMS, the coach was a KMS coach, according to
Dork the KMS coaches run the weekend programs of KWSC.

From your post I just think that you took it lightly and that you felt that a stern talking to from the Griz was sufficient.jimmywilson69 wrote:You've beenSnoBrdr wrote:How so ?jimmywilson69 wrote:While I don't disagree you've clearly gone above and beyond to make your point.for 4 pages now. From your posts, I gather you don't have child involved. We get it your pissed and think it was irresponsible. I don't think anyone's happy about it happening, and I am sure there will be consequences.
If it was my child I would be asking the KMS about their policies, their training of the coaches, etc.
But if you are happy with how they deal with your child, the risks they take, that is all that matters.

I don't have a child involved either and I think this was a pretty big screwup that is deserving of "not being retained" for next ski season.

Re: B team got lost off the back today
This tread has gotten tiresome - so I apologize - but there are misconceptions here and I still have a few things I would like to point out....
1) the information about this event - the local girl being 10 - how the decision was made to take a 'shortcut' - much of what has been published here is INCORRECT.
2) the ski club KWSC ski program members do not have line cutting privileges and should not be doing so. If any skier/boarder is wearing a bib it would be nice to allow them to advance to the front as it is possible they need to get to the start of a competition or race. Being a member of KWSC and having two kids in the programs I apologize if this has happened.
I have skied Killington over 50 days this year and since the late 80's. I have seen Killington Ski School cutting lines - and they have that privilege. I have yet to wait more than a few minutes in line this year except on rare occurrences. I have seen my kids and their groups waiting in line like everyone else and have not been cut by anyone. Mostly older kids (okay adults too) scrambling to grab a gondola or chair alone so they can smoke.
If ill behavior by a coach or team member has happened that is a problem that the club should know about but it is not acceptable and it would be corrected.
3) Just like school or any sport - children are enrolled that arrive with behavior issues. Ski etiquette and good behavior should be taught and enforced by parents. It is not the job of a coach to change a child's behavior but they should be removed from the program or disciplined if it is an issue. Sorry - you can't keep these kids from skiing.
4) It is distressing to hear that there is such a negative perceptions of these kids. I have to believe only a small percentage has contributed to this and that is too bad. On the whole - these kids are respectful athletes and they love to ski. The ski club spans generations - and these kids will be the future skiers/boarders, homeowners and promoters of the sport.
5) KWSC does not promote nor allow skiing out of bounds. Actually no one should really be skiing out of bounds. Coopers cabin - should that really bother anyone - really ? The kids do ski the woods. Sometimes there are multiple entrances - and sometimes a new entrance or another line is used. I am sure the club will be dealing with the ramifications of this event and will do their best to ensure the safety of all in the future.
6) Mid Dec-March these kids are away many weekend days traveling to other mountains competing and racing. They are promoting Killington. These programs bring in young skiers to Killington - like it or not - that is a big part of Killington's future.
Just recently I was at an event at another mountain with these same B skiers when a cheer went up for Killington - drowning out the Okemo cheer.
Have you ever skied Stratton, Snow, Okemo or Sugarbush - seen the support those mountains give their skiers and clubs and coaches ? Seems like at Killington we are constantly complaining about doing with less - or that they are taking away this or ruining that. These kids need their coaches. It is hard enough to find good people that want to dedicate their entire winter for basically no pay to help these kids. They do it for the love of skiing and working with these athletes.
These really are good kids. I can see what it must seem like from what some of you may have heard (please see item #1) but I know this coach to be dedicated, capable and trustworthy. You sit in your chairs and say he shouldn't have done this or you wouldn't have allowed this, bash the kids, bash the parents and the club - but with the exception of one of you on this board that I know - could you possibly have filled his shoes this past winter or guided these kids down the backside in good spirits ?

I think the point is, he never should have had to. If he were in control of his group they wouldn't be skiing out of bounds. Looking at the trail map, the trail in question is the resort boundary.could you possibly have filled his shoes this past winter or guided these kids down the backside in good spirits ?

Re: B team got lost off the back today
He was also lucky the went right and ended up on the Killington side, if he had gone left he would have ended up in the Shrewsbury side and there are no open roads back there in the winter, would have been a much worse outcome.TheLurker wrote:I think the point is, he never should have had to.
