You're right. It's merely an unfortunate act of God.
What JG really meant to say was, "You're right. It's merely an unfortunate act of God to have cold weather at a ski resort."
You're god damn right it their fault!

Edit:
And as long as I'm bitchin', why wasn't every other lift the mountain running today? A 5 minute wait for Skyship Stage II while Needles Quad sat idle was unacceptable. And what about the Snowdon Triple? (Ok, I never encounter any line at the Snowdon Quad). :beat

For that to be true, you'd have to know that they failed to maintain or inspect it on the usual cycle. Pray do share your insider information, so that we can know all of the other maintenance they missed.

I mean, THINK of all of the other major Eastern resorts who have had major lifts fail for days at a time. My God, it's practically an epidemic, and perfectly illustrates how gosh-darn common it is for all of these well-maintained and inspected chairlifts to fail on a regular basis.

No inside information here, just an easy observation... they've either bought a defective lift or maintain it ineptly... their purchase, their operations, their fault. Hey, I'm still kicking myself for buying that Toyota Corona back in the day. It was only $4,200, but I guess you get what you pay for. Of course changing it's oil more than once every million miles might have helped. :-)

No. No Bear for 2 out of a 3 day weekend after advertising OL opening. Whatever the "reason" the result was a big time fail for Killington.

I heard not until Wednesday for the SPQ and possibly Thurs for the Bear chair. Pathetic. They try to blame the "cold" but it has been very cold many times before without problems. I do not remember main chairlifts down for days ever in the last 14 years. They f-ed up and trying to get out of it by blaming the cold. This kind of "sorry" is like the person who insults you and says they are "sorry" if you were offended meaning that they do not believe they said anything offensive to the normal sensible population but if in your own odd sense of convention you took offense then they are "sorry".

Maybe they should try this stuff, only good to -50 F, but not good above 68 F.
I can pick some up in Hopkinton on the way up Wed AM if they call an order in.

I wonder why the grease in the other lifts on the colder side of the mnt was fine???

Mad River Glens Single broke down a few years ago. It was serious mechanical failure. They worked with the lift company(who even makes a single chair??). It broke down mid afternoon one day, they had to evac everyone with ropes. By midday the next day the lift company came and fixed the lift. I find it hard to believe that TWO lifts of very different make and model both broke down for multiple days.........

Guess everything has to be perfect for this coming weekend.

supe was also down on sunday and many other lifts started late. not a good performance at all ...

the real problem on sunday was that due to the cold, bear would have been the warmest place on the mtn and it was shut down. also no one at bear seemed to have a clue as to what was going on. real communications was non-existent.

Entirely possible that they're sandbagging ... or in this case greasebagging
Maybe if it warms up, they can paint the towers too

To me, there are a handful of possibilities:

1. They're lying/delaying. This has absolutely no point. There isn't going to be more terrain open to spread out crowds for the Dew Tour, it's AWFUL PR, there are no midweek crowds to be dangerous, and the snow surface on Lower Wildfire isn't going to hold up to a weekend crowd even if you blow snow 5 feet deep and don't touch it until the weekend.

2. Both lifts mysteriously experienced some improbable mechanical failure on the same day at the same time. The grease froze up? It wasn't even the coldest day of the year, by a long shot.

3. Something major happened electrically, be it on the Power Utility end or on the end of Killington's infrastructure, resulting in lifts damaged internally. To me, this is the most likely scenario.
