Thanks for the useful and updated (see bold!) info, from after 2008.

Sorry for the interruption. Back to the weekday rants.

... without a full understanding of your 'use-case' and needs, the opinions here will vary widely.
I'd cast a vote for Ray at Basin and Hal at Northern. They've both seen it all.
If either of those guys can't help you ... snowboarding is an option.

Over the years I've been fitted by Ray of the Basin, Dave at Peak Performance and Hal at Northern Ski Works. All are professional and do a great job of fitting your boots.

Hal at Northern, and for those coming in from 103 or rt 4 from 89, First Stop at the intersection of Rt 100 and Rt 4, (demolished Blackies Store right accross Rt 4), Bill does an excellent job, just got a pair of Solomon Quest 12, best fitting boot right out of the box I've ever had, plus its the warmest since my rear entry Soloman SX62.

Tested: Salomon Quest 12 Boots

Salomon is unveiling a new line of high-performance all-mountain freeski boots that will be available to the public in the 2010/11 season. We got to take them out touring in the Telluride backcountry of the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado. related tags: Gear Backcountry Gear Gear Gear Photos salomon Salomon Quest 12 Alpine High Performance Salomon AT Boots

photo: Mark Lesh Salomon Quest 12 Boots

Turns out these boots do it all. At 26.5 ounces and a 120 flex the Quest 12s ski like a full-on alpine boot with a very smooth flex pattern. In reality, they are a full-on alpine boot—just an alpine boot that goes uphill in style. They sport an easy walk/ski mode with plenty of articulation in the ankle for touring. They come with touring pads that can swap out with the regular alpine souls that are compatible with all touring bindings including Dynafit.

The Quest 12s are a three-buckle boot, but with a huge snug power strap, they ski like a four-buckle boot without the extra weight. These boots have tons of micro adjustments in the buckles and canting that you’d expect with a high performance alpine boot as well as a magnesium backbone for more power and Custom Fit Pro Biovent Quicklace liners. They’re 100mm in the last. And they look pretty sexy.

A friend of mine likes Ray at Surefoot. She is VERY difficult to fit due to a host of medical problems. Takes a few tries to get it right for her, but she ends up with a good fit. He does not give up. She has tried the rest and now deals with Ray only. She can go through a pair of boots a season at 135+ days.

If you liked your boot fitter, then why did you keep trying someone else?

Ditto, Ray at the Basin or Hal at Northern. Both top notch.
