Debating whether to make the trip up Thursday Night or leave from Central CT early Friday morning. Having a hard time pinpointing when this "event" will begin.

Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
Based on local news forecasts up here, I'd say Thursday night. Heaviest snow currently forecast by mid-morning Friday. You probably don't want to drive through it and you'd, I assume, prefer to be skiing in it while it's happening.livefast/diefun wrote:Debating whether to make the trip up Thursday Night or leave from Central CT early Friday morning. Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
Bubba is 100% right. To be on the safe side, drive to K on Thursday night. Forecasting the timing of a storm is the most difficult thing to do. So I wouldn't be surprised if the snow holds off more than what is being forecast right now. The Euro, for example, is slower with the storm. However, you don't want to risk it, so drive on Thursday night and sit back on Friday and head out to the hill when the time is right.Bubba wrote:Based on local news forecasts up here, I'd say Thursday night. Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
Haven't watched the news much but rumors swirling around the office this AM say the same thing. Could be rough going for the morning commute. Lets hope it all pans out! I'm the only person in my office with a sh*t eating grin on this morning as everyone stands around "preparing for imminent doom".Bubba wrote:Based on local news forecasts up here, I'd say Thursday night. Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
I hope this pans out. I'll be up this weekend, and will be in line for 1st chair Friday.
The question is do I bring the powder boards or not??????????

Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
Answer: Depends on how long your staying. First chair likely doesn't need powder boards, as snow will be light overnight and into the morning hours. According to official forecast - as Bubba said - doesn't crank up until later in the morning. But towards the end of the day powder boards may be warranted.jimmywilson69 wrote:I hope this pans out. Frankly, if timing pans out as forecast - and this is a very big "if" - I wouldn't bother with first chair Friday. I would wait until it really starts dumping and accumulating and would then head out with the fat boards.

Always leave your powder boards at home, then it's sure to snow.jimmywilson69 wrote:The question is do I bring the powder boards or not??????????

Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
Can't believe we are still talking about this stuff.
1) When in doubt, bring both pairs if you have 'em.
2) q=½ρv². That means fat is only better (In general) if you go slow. Pay attention to the v² part.
3) It is far better to be in Killington skiing 3 inches than to be at work missing 12.
4) Don't scrape the powder.
5) As much as you want to believe it, the forecast isn't correct.
6) All seasons are not snow tires.
7) Leaving your boots/poles/pass/gloves/goggles/wallet at home on a powder day sucks. Double check before leaving.
8] Powder afternoons last longer than powder mornings.
9) Save the Snowdon Quad.

Re: Friday 2/8 Snowstorm
I made a rule about 12 years ago not to go anywhere without powder skis, after skiing about 2 feet of heavy snow on 205cm slalom skis.Mister Moose wrote:1) When in doubt, bring both pairs if you have 'em.
This year before christmas, I left my good pow skis at home, since I had about 4-5 pairs of older pow skis up at K and was not expecting snow. After christmas, ended up driving from my family's house, home to pick up the good skis and misc other stuff, then up to K. Totally worth it but an 8 hour saga including packing, quite the pain in the neck.

Winter Storm Watch issued for Killington.
Burlington NWS calling for 11 to 19 inches between Thursday night and Saturday morning. Look at the daily forecast to get a sense of which day will be the best day. Late afternoon Friday and early Saturday seem to look best right now. Of course, snow amounts and timing may and will likely change. :

"Thursday Night: Snow likely, mainly after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -15. Breezy, with a south wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Friday: Snow. High near 20. Wind chill values as low as -16. Windy, with a southeast wind 28 to 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.
Friday Night: Snow, mainly before 5am. Low around 6. East wind 9 to 13 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible."
