It's getting closer
Leaves are just starting to turn on the mountain. Ski shops are open with the new gear arriving daily. Resort is gearing up for the Spartan race next weekend. Beer is fermenting awaiting the Brewfest that starts the social ski season. Summit of the mountain never got above 50 degrees this weekend. Yes I can feel it, it is getting close.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

Edited. As I apparently got a hold of a picture that was not for public consumption yet.

Highline is being expanded so that both the racing and freestyle teams can have a training venue. There were problems last year that this expansion hopefully will alleviate.

Re: It's getting closer
I am ready! 3 sets of skis ready to go, 2 snowboards ready and able, a new Fish and Burton Genesis bindings on order. All I need to do is some base welding and tuning of my rock fish and I'm ready for early season pow. Bring it on! It's going to be an awesome Winter. I can feel it.

Hmm...Nothing on Sunday River Site nor their Facebook (only a comment "Brrrrrrrr."), but this post is causing considerable controversy on Sunday River CommunityDickc wrote:

Now the AZ board is lit up with speculation over Dickc's picture and what it means and why SR is silent?? On SR Community board still more speculation; some asking "was it wet rocks?", is Dickc some kind of double agent??. I will continue to believe Dickc's picture is what he claims and the 2014-2015 snow making season has begunfreeski wrote:That is truly beautiful.Dickc wrote:

Re: It's getting closer
blowing out the mice on 9/15 when it was cold enough to turn the grass white for a little while doesn't mean snow making has started.
As Highway Star has/will state Killington has the advantage with elevation. It will get consistently colder in the Glades/North Ridge area much sooner than at the top of Locke Mountain.
If it was 10/15, then we could start speculating...

JW69 you can't put the snow (or mice) back in the gun. I know it's early but the Jeanie is out.jimmywilson69 wrote:blowing out the mice on 9/15 when it was cold enough to turn the grass white for a little while doesn't mean snow making has started.

As far as speculating about opening, tell that to the AZ people who have an active thread going.
I think Wildcat could be an early player this year, but not the earliest. It will come down to a duel between SR and Killington. Too bad Sugarloaf won't participate because they could win, however it's not part of their business plan.

Re: It's getting closer
Found out later yesterday that I got a picture that was not ready for public consumption as the mountain was going to do a whole social media thing with it and I guess I messed them up. I do know someone there, and guess I better think next time I hear or see something.freeski wrote:Now the AZ board is lit up with speculation over Dickc's picture and what it means and why SR is silent?? So you are a double agent...
Nice

Nice

Re: It's getting closer
How and where do you propose Sugarloaf win a first to open? Their lift system is not set up for upload/download to an upper mountain ribbon of white very well. I suppose a double runner to skyline could work, but the terrain is a bit too steep at the top of skyline to hold early snow through unfrozen ground.

Re: It's getting closer
Maybe Superquad to Timberline pod? Wiffletree to King Pine pod would be really nice Haul Back isn't that steep for early snow (maybe a lot of walking). You're right though, with the current lift configuration there is no good way. But, they could do it if they wanted. It would be great if they had a new lift to the top and then Timberline would be easy.machski wrote:How and where do you propose Sugarloaf win a first to open?
