ya sure about that?deadheadskier wrote:You clearly lack the understanding of what the word exploitation means.madhatter wrote:ummm yes you were, hard to imagine your left wing workers rights ideology approving 6 days/70 hrs a week 365 days a year working conditions but hey hypocrisy and contradiction are the hallmarks of the liberal persona....deadheadskier wrote:Wasn't saying they were easy to exploit at all. I was saying that they appreciated the opportunity to work and showed it 365 days a year and never complained that sometimes 6 day work weeks at 70+ hours is the norm in the hotel world. If they worked 70, I worked 80. I have never felt it appropriate to ask staff to work longer and harder than I am willing to work myself.
That's the way it goes in the hospitality business. It's not exploitation if it is legal and it's a known condition of employment. Ask any restaurant manager or chef how many hours they work a week. Theyll laugh at the concept of 40 hours.
At that Hilton property there are some months out of the year when working 70 hours a week is common and others where you are lucky to get 15 if not be laid off all together. That's the way the business cycles. The hospitality business isn't for everyone, but it's known that you make hay when the sun shines. Being available, nights, weekends and every holiday is part of the job. I worked 17 Thanksgivings in a row at one point in my life. It was not exploitation because it was a known condition of employment that I agreed to if I wanted that job.
Don't want to work 70+ hours a week sometimes? Don't work in the hospitality business. No one is forcing you to.
so as far as you are concerned paying min wage to a worker who doesn't have the skills to make any more, subjecting them to night shifts, weekends and holidays, long hours etc is not exploitation? I definitely agree, but it kinda shoots your whole "fair whatever/everything" doctrine full of holes...ex·ploi·ta·tion
ˌekˌsploiˈtāSH(ə)n/
noun
1.
the action or fact of treating someone unfairly in order to benefit from their work.
"the exploitation of migrant workers"
synonyms: taking advantage, abuse, misuse, ill-treatment, unfair treatment, oppression
"the exploitation of the poor"
2.
the action of making use of and benefiting from resources.
"the Bronze Age saw exploitation of gold deposits"
synonyms: utilization, use, making use of, making the most of, capitalization on; informalcashing in on
also clearly obliterates all the left wing memes about time off, holidays, black friday and a whole host of liberal ridiculousness....
I got nothing against anyone who wants to work 70+ hours a week, I wouldn't be where I am today without having done so...
you saying that immigrant workers are more willing to work long hours and numerous consecutive days than many US citizens is something I also concur with, many asian immigrants I have worked with had the strongest work ethic and desire to achieve of anyone I've encountered...While much of it is cultural in nature, more of it has to do with the NEED...
someone not having the luxury to say no isn't anything I have a problem with but to just about any SJW it is most certainly exploitation...when I worked down in the Bible belt and I couldn't find anybody to work on Sundays because my name isn't Jesus. clearly didn't need to work sundayAt least the refugees would work whenever you asked and for however long you asked.most likely did need to work on sunday
I find it quite interesting that in real world terms liberals have no problem in seeing things as they are and are willing to accept that... it's the whole "central planning" for everyone else where you all veer off into fantasyland...and that's what I have a problem with,,,

I make a bit more than that from my SSI payments and I collected about 3 years early. My dad died in 1963 leaving Mom with 5 kids and one in the oven. She collected Dad's survivor SSI which was MAXED for those years and some VA benefits. It wasn't great, but much better than what most people on assistance are making.steamboat1 wrote:Obama budgets $17,613 for every new illegal minor, more than Social Security retirees get

Now why we are paying immigrants more than our own citizens is a scandal.

$17K is for each kid coming in from Mex. I would guess it's much higher for the Syrians. Well, at least they are thankful, just look at the Tsarnaev brothers. I wonder how much they've cost us

They will cost us until the FED executes the courts order, which should be Death by either injection or electrocution for the younger surviving brother.freeski wrote:$17K is for each kid coming in from Mex. The cost to those who they affected? There can be no measure.
