Snowshed Adventure Center

Is hideous. The mountain coaster looks awful. I know this is a money maker for the mountain. But couldn't it of blended a bit better with the surrounding environment? Anyone in agreement with me?

Have you tried the coaster out? It's a fun ride. I think what they did made sense. Less excavation needed to install. Less disruptive to the surrounding area. They had it open last season. Fairly quick build. It was about finished when i was up last July. More summer dollars are good for the whole mountain.

Doubt you will get many here to agree with you.

The coaster along w MBing has changed the whole summer feel.

Yes because nothing says natural like the multiple super highways like superstar, ovation, dipper etc cut into Killington. all are eyesores, ropes course, grand hotel, coaster included. Luckily there is plenty of back country and wilderness area options for those of us who like to get out of a resort and see relatively pristine areas. If it makes the mountain money and results in an overall more pleasant ski experience through cap ex I am happy.

don't see the difference between that and a chairlift. as far as blending, most of the downhill ride is through the woods. actually thought it was nicely done.

Personally, I am disappointed with the coaster. Its like a temporary construction out of Unistrut. It is not a smooth ride.

Doesnt compare to the one at Okemo. Anyone else ridden both and back me up?

Aside from that, I think the expansion at Snowshed is great. Better for biking. And I like it better for the summer concerts [though they do need to get am umbrella bar down there.

I think it's great. Beats that deserted 6 stall driving range by a light year. Employees working, guests having fun. If you don't like the scene at snowshed take just a little walk in any direction for some of the most beautiful scenery in God's creation.

My kids love it which means I get to come up more. Win-win. But to the op's question. I think they did a great job blending it into the mountain side with minimal impact to skiing and the bike trails.

So who has had the balls to go top to bottom without touching the brakes?

Are you talking on a bike or on the coaster? The coaster is weak. The first time I rode it, I was no brakes and pushing the brake lever down the entire ride. Bring back the alpine slide. Now that's a thrill (pssst... the alpine slide a Bromley kicks ass).
Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

I never touched the brakes until I got to the very bottom and by then they control it and make you stop anyway.

key to the coaster is to get as close to the max weight limit as you can, for some That's not much of an issue I suppose for others double up...Mrs Hatter and I weight w/in a few lbs of the max and when we doubled up on that thing it was VERY fast but no where near as death defying as the alpine meat grinder....They used to have an alpine slide at Mt Tom in mass, saw lots of major road rash victims there...I'll stick w biking...as far as the aesthetics of the coaster go, I like all that gleaming stainless steel...won;t be long before the zip line across the pond is up and running....anyone done the segway yet?

Don't worry, the coaster and all other gimmicky Adventure Center stuff will be gone within 5 years, that sort of thing never seems to be sustainable past the first year or two when it's "the new thing" - then visits fall off dramatically. If people want to ride amusements they can do it much better closer to home. There's much bigger parks at Lake George, Six Flags New England, and in the NYC region. Okemo does better because they actually have families buying vacation properties to use year round, there's a town and lakes etc there.

They have really gone all out with the bike park stuff, hopefully this will result in more "destination" bike park visits, and make it sustainable.

yet somehow you keep showing up here? seriously your financial advice and ski mgmt savvy are of no value to anyone... you really have no ability to do any thinking outside of your very limited interests....you clearly are incapable of understanding the market for these types of things and who partakes...those looking for an amusement park aren't coming here for those attractions, that never was the plan...the plan is to offer more to those who ALREADY come here for other reasons...The bike park itself is doing great with lots of patrons and the rental fleet fully rented out on wknd and holidays, sold a lot of season passes and got nearly 100 bike race participants for a wed race series....K isn't even remotely trying to compete w lake george and six flags etc...totally different market...totally different scene, totally different offerings....not everyone is looking for the all day "inside the gates" experience of those places...some are looking for place for the wife and kids to spend a few hours while they golf or bike, and everyone can meet up later and go for a hike, ride the coaster or skyrides and try out some of the other offerings...those who don't ski at all but come to K in summer to see the scenery and ride the gondola are also looking to spend a few more bux on something a little more adventurous and K is filling that need nicely w more to come in the coming years...what they aren't looking to attract is crybaby obnoxious douchebags like yourself, they will however still take your money....there was definitely some K brass at dominics last nite taking stock of things...I'm sure they were happy w the turnout and the vibe...it's a win for pretty much everyone except you HS and your misery over it just adds to the enjoyment the rest of us get...

As I said, the bike park expansion is great....granted, they are catching up to the trend on it, but it would have been nice 5 years ago. Zip lining can be a draw too, but it is coming off a hype peak. Everything else is highly questionable and won't be around long term. Here's Whistler's summer activities page - please point out where their mountain coaster and all their "rides" are.....?

http://www.whistler.com/activities/summer/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No? Because they know that people don't come to Whistler for that. Duh.
