Hey, another person who hasn't been to Portland in at least 15 years.
MEANWHILE BACK IN THE REAL WORLD:

The crime rate in Portland is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 35 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Portland is 1 in 29. Based on FBI crime data, Portland is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Maine, Portland has a crime rate that is higher than 94% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.
Importantly, when you compare Portland to other communities of similar population, then Portland crime rate (violent and property crimes combined) is quite a bit higher than average. Regardless of how Portland does relative to all communities in America of all sizes, when NeighborhoodScout compared it to communities of similar population size, its crime rate per thousand residents stands out as higher than most.
The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 18,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined.
Now let us turn to take a look at how Portland does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Portland.
From our analysis, we discovered that violent crime in Portland occurs at a rate higher than in most communities of all population sizes in America. The chance that a person will become a victim of a violent crime in Portland; such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape or murder; is 1 in 402. This equates to a rate of 2 per one thousand inhabitants.
NeighborhoodScout's analysis also reveals that Portland's rate for property crime is 32 per one thousand population. This makes Portland a place where there is an above average chance of becoming a victim of a property crime, when compared to all other communities in America of all population sizes. Property crimes are motor vehicle theft, arson, larceny, and burglary. Your chance of becoming a victim of any of these crimes in Portland is one in 31.

PORTLAND, Maine — A recent increase in crime in Portland continued overnight Monday, when about 30 vehicles were broken into, Acting Portland Police Chief Vernon Malloch said Tuesday.
Thieves smashed windows to gain entry to cars parked in the area of Somerset, Preble and State streets, stealing cash and valuables from some vehicles but leaving them behind in others during what Malloch described as “a very unusual” circumstance.
Police have increased patrols in that area and throughout the city, following a late-night shooting May 25 that left 19-year-old Treyjon Arsenault dead and another man injured, as well as a number of armed robberies in recent weeks.
On May 15, a man displayed a handgun at the University Credit Union on Brighton Avenue and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Ten days later, a man held up another man and his three children and, later, a 23-year-old Portland woman on Sherman Street.
The day after, a man robbed the TruChoice Federal Credit Union at 272 Park Ave., fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
On May 31, a 23-year-old woman reported a man robbed, assaulted and attempted to sexually assault her on Clark Street in the West End. The woman suffered facial, neck and arm injuries but did not require treatment at a hospital, police said at the time.
On Friday afternoon, a 35-year-old Cumberland woman reportedly was robbed as she left Shalom House on Gilman Street. The alleged victim told police a man approached her as she walked to her car and repeatedly threatened her with a knife until she eventually entered her car, retrieved a handgun and pointed it at him.
On Tuesday, TruChoice Federal Credit Union and Portland police offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of that man.
Malloch said Tuesday police believe the two credit union robberies may be related but do not suspect the same individual is responsible for the other crimes, in part because descriptions of the suspects don’t match.
“Some people have identified a light-skinned black or Hispanic male, [others] a very dark-skinned black male,” Malloch said.
Malloch said Tuesday the crimes remain under investigation and offered no new information.
“The best advice we can give folks is constantly be aware of your surroundings,” he said. When walking, be aware of the next open business into which you could retreat and have a cellphone ready to dial 911. He also urged people to comply with any demands if they are victimized.
Malloch urged anyone with information about any of the crimes to call police at 874-8575 or text GOTCHA to 274637.
so serious question here: are you oblivious to reality because of some sort of mental illness or brain damage? is it heavy chronic drug and alcohol abuse? were you just born stupid perhaps? or is it just the typical liberalism that prevents you from having any fvcking clue as to what is actually going on in the world in favor of some alternative reality that you wish was real?....
feel free to contrast and compare portland to rochester ( where I don;t live but it is near by...) let me know how your highly educated portland does vs "redneck sh!thole rochester"...idiot...
