sunday 2/12/2017 report
perhaps it got better after we got off the hill around 11:30 but nothing too inspiring during our shift. opened on a very foggy skyeburst which skied well if like skiing by braille. hit the bear trees including stash woods which skied well but nothing like yesterday's powdery goodness. thimble better than vertigo but lots of icey ugliness. upper needles the better choice. lower section of valley plunge pretty slick. bitter/low road was good. low road's one of those guilty pleasures. lower o though groomed again was scarily slick in spots. perhaps left edge better. snowdon trees ok. closed out on breakaway, the upper part a windblown pow delight but lower featured icey back bumps.

It got better and better. I just came in(3:15ish) and trees are filling in, sides of trails have powder building up. Jealous of everyone getting out tomorrow!

I agree early on it was nothing to write home about. But that began to change after 1pm. Canyon became very nice, everything else I skied was also.
Tomorrow will be epic. Snowdon at 8 am...bring patience and anticipation.

This morning with all the fog was not much fun but did ski OL and other Bear trails and all skied well. At Needles the quad was not running so we only skied a few runs there. Skylark and Bittersweet skied well too. When the snow started so did the wind and the wind was very cold and my skiing partner called it quits around 11:00. I continued skiing in the North Ridge area since that lift was tolerable. Skied some woods there that kept me out of the wind and were untouched. Decided to ski Downdraft to Flume as my last run before lunch and I was not disappointed. The new snow had filled in things. After thawing out for a bit, I headed back out and went to the Canyon where I was pleasantly surprised that there was no wind. Really enjoyed almost everything in that area. Did not do Big Dipper because the people skiing it were making lots of noise meaning that they were finding the icyness below. I will wait until more snow falls before I ski it. The tree runs were awesome. I stopped skiing because I wanted to save my legs for tomorrow. Was told tonight that Ovation was great so I hope to sample it tomorrow. BTW, it got better with each run.

Everyone that skied until before noon missed out on what was a great day. The day started off frigid and extremely windy with low visibility. Crowds were light the entire day. After noon the snow was falling, the temperature rose, and the wind died down. Skied all areas of Killington at this time, but have to say Needles Eye area was the best. Superstar, upper Ovation, and also Old Superstar lovely as well. Canyon did not have enough cover yet and the strong winds still revealed the surface of Pluto below. Escapade upper mountain ROTD.
One negative is due to the incoming powder Killington should have groomed EVERYTHING out. Skyelark had large ice moguls that would take many feet of snow to cover. it really ruins powder when it all settles in the troughs and you have to still scrape over sheer ice mogul backsides. There is nothing worse than having a fresh huge dump of snow and having the relics of previous meltdowns peaking above it.

The snow on lower Skylark was fine this morning. Guess it deteriorated later in the day.specialp wrote:Everyone that skied until before noon missed out on what was a great day. Actually come to think of it, it might have been because they were blowing wet snow on it the day prior. It probably got dug out as the day progressed, and turned to ice when it was nice and cold today.

The north ridge triple was brutally cold yesterday before noon. Coldest I can remember it. Worse than the Slowdon Quad.
