Post by Mister Moose »

Sad to hear Fred, owner/founder of Peak Performance Ski Shop, lost his battle with cancer a week ago Saturday.

This is so sad, he was a wonderful guy. A few stories on what he meant to me and my family -

When my oldest daughter was no more than 4 and before the kid's programs were located at Ramshead, Fred suggested that I take her over to Pico where it would be "friendlier". He lent me a pair of skis and boots for the day for her and said "have fun" - just to let her walk around on the snow and glide down a little slope. It was like magic, it turned a little girl who was "uncomfortable" in the Snowshed environment into a skier. We skied at Pico with her for 2 or 3 years before we returned to Killngton and she was older and more confident.

A few year's later when my younger daughter was ready for skiing - her favorite color was purple. Fred went out of his way to find a pair of boots and skis for her that were purple - and now 25 years later that little girl is still my "ski buddy". We will miss him.

RIP, Fred. Deepest condolences to his family and friends . We’ve been loyal season-tune customers of Peak for over 15 years. Coming back to Peak to chat with Fred and the friendly team was like a family homecoming and always a sign that winter is here and our equipment would be well-taken care of. We’ll miss ya, Fred!

Sorry I missed it. A friend showed up to ski with me in the afternoon and I forgot about the memoriam. May he rest in peace.
