Friday Report 12/4/2020
Too f’ing crowded. Done before 10a. So many academies. Many more van fulls pulling in as I headed out. White school vans with NJ plates. Colby and Bates are in ME, how are their teams training in VT? F this crap.

There apparently is some exceptions for college sports as well as the highest level, FIS, junior racing, which most academy athletes in the U16/U19 and above age groups race under.Stormchaser wrote: ↑Dec 4th, '20, 10:07 I thought organized team sports were currently in a timeout...?
The younger age groups and the non FIS athletes where just explicitly told by Gov Scott earlier this week that their programs are on hold until further notice. Prior to this revision by Gov Scott, programs for the younger and non FIS athletes could happen given the social distancing and outdoors nature of competition ski and snowboard programs when the same group of athletes is paired with the same coach in small groups each time they're on the hill training

Yes, by the governor”s order organized sports are in time out. For these out of state institutions like colby and bates who are busing in numerous athletes it would seem prudent that someone reach out to their administrators to verify quarantine requirements have been met. It seems they may have a higher level of social responsibility than the average Joe who chooses to ignore state guidance then agin social responsibility may not be a value they espouse. These are the types of action that will put an end to the season. If the academies have bs’d their way in claiming they have a majority of FIS level athletes that deserve to out public health at risk because their training is so valuable that is the biggest Social injustice by the state so far. Each academy has a small minority of legit FIS. athletes. Shame on the governor if this is the case as he is basically saying affluent out of state kids attending academies have more of a right to ski than locals who struggle to compete as what often is their only opportunity to ski. Pathetic

The mountain must know these groups are here as they probably get group tickets unless they have multiple passes like Ikon and Epic

Re: Friday Report 12/4/2020
Thank you K for having a control person at the Bubble today, and for opening the triple and Canyon, BUT, it did not help in the overcrowded slopes from all the ski schools. Okemo, Colby and other schools joined Sugarbush, K, and not sure about Stowe.
Conditions were somewhat chunky monkey from the full sun day and warmer temps of yesterday. East Fall opened and ungroomed. Some water flowing down to dirt in sections. Guns on Launch Pad, upper Downdraft entrance, upper DD, entrance toward Northstar and Skylark.

Re: Friday Report 12/4/2020
certainly was crowded and all the ski teams added to the mayhem. mid-morning we were experiencing 5-10 minutes at the bubble. shorter at the NRQ & K1 to no waits on the other lifts. yup good job managing the lines at the bubble.
thought the skiing surface overall was pretty good. highlights were east fall which got a number of repeats with a couple of marked "crevasses" to avoid. also repeats on the downdraft headwalltm which skied great after the snowmaking of the last couple days. that run has been a pleasant surprise so far this season. rotd. tomorrow should be quite frightening ...

If they are showing up in vans, they are not quarantining. Send them home.

Just more proof that the governor's covid rules are political sh*t.skilab wrote: ↑Dec 4th, '20, 10:46 Yes, by the governor”s order organized sports are in time out. If the governor's administration and Killington allowed this, then clearly they don't care about quarantine guidelines and it's all just political theater. Huge mistake to not have the triple and canyon open from the start if they knew these groups were coming. Long lines and large crowds are really bad optics.

Out at the open, waited in line with the G's. Usual Friday, it's the new Saturday. As others said, lot of schools. Mountain needs the money, not many other areas open, I'm not going to complain. I spent most of my time on the re-opened Lower East Fall. A bit chalky in spots, but lots of good stuff too. Bit of a roller coaster since it is still ungroomed, crevasses to avoid, and under-qualified skiers attempting to make their way down. I saw one woman, literally next to the lower (ladies tee) entrance, carrying her skis down. I yelled to her to just walk back up that. Nope, not having it. I guess her boyfriend was below. That's going to be an interesting and unlucky car ride home.
Biggest problem was the wind. Tried one ride on the Snowdon triple. It kept stopping on every gust, but no one ever mistakenly called it "Ol' Reliable", either. One blast near the top had it paused for several minutes. The 6 was requesting riders to lower the bubble; guess it's a giant hood scoop when open. Canyon Quad and North Ridge were both operating fairly steady in the breeze, but chilly. The stretch above Great Northern on the Canyon 4 being the worst. There's where we need a bubble.
Govner' isn't going to do anything about the out-of-staters not quarantining, since it is unlikely that it would pass constitutional muster in any court. Better to keep it toothless, than have it struck down completely.
