Re: My return to skiing
I’ve gotten several shots for my knees during the past year. They’ve worked for me (so far) but I don’t think they work for knees as far gone as Dork’s.

Re: My return to skiing
Welcome back Dork. Why has your knee not been replaced? Last time I saw you which was many years ago I believe the Dr said you weren't ready yet. it sounds like you are ready. Get it done in Rutland. And the stairs may not be required again this season! And sorry for the loss of Ty.

Re: My return to skiing
Therapy worked for my knees for 15 years, until the end of last year. I came away from a ski season 15 years ago limping. Doctor told me to stop running-jumping-doing weights and just do therapy and simple leg exercises, and a lot of walking/hiking. Then my knees were like I was in my 20's, until the end of last season when I started getting the same pain as 15 years ago-by the next day they feel better. Same thing this year for my first day out, I could only do 7 top to bottom runs on the Barker Quad at Sunday River and had to quit-next day my knees felt fine. Anyone have something similar? Don't know what's going on, maybe just old age? I hope the knee pain on Sunday was just from first day out?
!!!!!!!!!! MAKE AMERICA LOVE AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!
Re: My return to skiing
Jeff,
Good to see you on line the other day and a brief chat. Hope the knee strengthens up so you can get out skiing. Especially this season when you want to do it in memory of Maria.

So after reading about the unloader brace I just remembered my donjoy defiance is an unloader brace so I'm definitely going to use that for my right leg I think it'll help a lot I really didn't want to have to use them but I think the unloader part of it is definitely worth it

Re: My return to skiing
I use this website. https://fittoplay.org The idea is to build up the muscles around the knees to help stabilize the knee. You have to get started early. The other option is double IPA's after a session.
And the sea will grant each man new hope . . .

Re: My return to skiing
So my PT guy who showed me a bunch of knee exercises said that the gel shot actually might help me even with the B-O-B I made an appt at the ortho for 12/8
Re: My return to skiing
I have 10 days so far. Pain is preventing me from skiing the way I want to ski. I can last longer on flat and fast like the superstar pod vs sugar mounds like on middle chute.
I start gel shots on Thursday. I am going to rent a snowboard and tool around on snowshed once it opens, seeing if that is less painful on the knees, which I believe it is.
I will contact HSS in February to initiate knee replacement with them. Hoping for maybe April.
