tuesday 1/24 report

Post by skiadikt »

for the most part, yesterday's leftovers were pretty tasty but damn this no/low viz thing is getting old. nonetheless another fine ski day. btw woodstock came to killington. the skiing was "free" for most of the morning as the toll booths weren't working causing tie ups as some folks got through and others didn't.

w the powder feeding frenzy over, mixed things up a bit. opened on a very smooth highline at the bell. the scanner issues sent us to the NR where the fog then sent us to bear. a trip through the SR skied beautifully. a highlight. skyeburst ttb was a carpet. wildfire's looked so bad from the lift that we haven't been skiing it. surprisingly skied really well as the left edge had lots of pow. groomed lower good as well. dream HW good with some rock avoidance in the usual places. lower dream skied like a dream. haven't hit shorty in a while and it was good. while nowhere near the epicness of the previous 2 days, OL gets a 3-peat as rotd.

northside foggy & windy. lark good. old supe nice soft bumps. enjoyed the supe skier's left line under the chairlift. roped dropped on double dip. skied well w the usual thin spots. escapade good but the entrance off launch pad is totally trashed. while there were some good turns upper, flume is pretty beat. same with north star.

snowmaking on timberline, downdraft HW, upper and lower. appeared to be off on middle. pipedream ttb including the stream crossing below the SRQ. hoses were staged and looked like they were getting ready to make snow on lower dipper but there was a blowout at the top.

Whomever is making the call to get these trails done prior to slogging out Dreammaker for a week gets a beer or 12.

Is the blow out accessible for repairs or see ya in the summer? Could be a chore getting equipment in on that bad larry depending on where it is.

right at top just off GN. easily accessible. believe the pipes are above ground there. didn't ski by it since we went down the trail. may already be fixed. just saw where it ran down the trail.

speaking of trails - thinking on the east side, upper wildfire should be a priority ahead of whatever they do w dreammaker. stash as well.

report mentions bitter. never skied it so don't know where or to what extent. kinda hoping for ovation and of course guessing supe is gonna get hit hard soon.

Found on the trail, 10am. If you're drinking before 10am and littering, maybe you should re-think your skiing.

Looking forward to seeing some shadows. If it wasn't foggy, it was swirling around your feet. I thought the tilled in fresh would ski better. Natural trails still delivered, but be ready for a quick change of plans.

I've never understood throwing your cans all over the place. I pick up at least 3 or 4 a day!

Thanks for the reports, always appreciated!

Afternoon "East Side" Report: Although not totally the plan, missed most of the poor viz by staying East of the K1 lodge. Definitely clearer [and no freezing mist] on that side of the ridge. Very little "untracked" out there, but plenty of nice soft natural snow in the usual places.

ROTD: Thimble -> Needle's Eye. Thimble not much different than yesterday and Needle's Eye still great.

Warmup run on Lower Vertigo very good. Low Road filled in nicely. Then, only run at Supe [Middle O] was OK and about as expected. Agree with SA that the bumps under the SS chair are really good and then get firmer [but still OK] after the end of the rope. Overall, Supe in best condition it has been in a while.

Pipe Dream [guns on, mostly on the left] was a fun run and looks like they fixed up the right hand exit.

Runner Up ROTD: Dream Maker Hump Wall -> Dream Maker -> Grizzly [believe it was open; shows as such on the App]. Top is rocky, but very doable, then real good rest of the way down.

O.L. very good and great way to warm up. Definitely more challenging today than past 3 days. Also at Bear, Lower Skyeburst and Lower Wildfire very good groomers. Shorty was great.

Good Day on the hill.
