That is actually a serious problem. They want you to throw your crap into a crevasse, but even now, people don't.
The thing about a big mountain like Denali is two: Your motivation and judgement diminishes as you go higher, and in the extreme weather, even walking a couple hundred yards to a crevasse is a big deal. Think about it. People don't even want to melt ice long enough to bring it to a boil, to prevent diaharrea.

Believe me, climbers are aware of the situation and know exactly how to prevent it. It is virtually impossible to enforce, because on Denali you don't have rangers patrolling the mountain, especially during a storm when most of this sh*t (no pun intended) goes on.andyzee wrote:Interesting, I looked at the following line, "The study recommends a campaign to better educate climbers about hygiene and to impose stiffer penalties for breaches" and had to wonder. How will they inforce this, have cops stand at the top of each mountain.

The only animals on Denali are some ravens at lower elevations. Occassionally a bear will wander on the ice but he doesn't stay long. The problem is the disease it causes. People throw their sh*t onto the ice. Later, some poor soul melts contaminated ice for drinking water. He then gets diaharrea, which as you can imagine makes the situation even worse.BigKahuna13 wrote:Didn't read the article, but wtf is the big deal? sh*t's organic. It breaks down eventually doesn't it? I mean the animals don't pack out their sh*t do they?
